People of Ireland who drive/drove a 2010/11 Opel Astra what are your opinions on the car for a first time car buyer? Any advice? Thanks 🙂

I wouldn’t. But that’s just me.
What engine?
I had a 2010 Astra 1.6 diesel for around 3 years, lovely car, never had any trouble with it.
Cars are deeply personal. I suggest you try get a test drive in a few and see if you like it. For example, I quite like the new Mazda’s but I hate their gearbox and I find the visibility from the driver seat (I’m quite tall) very limiting due to thick pillar. By contrast, I find BMWs and Audi’s very comfortable and love the feedback in terms of handling.
All that to say, don’t buy a car based on what other people like as what they love, you may hate.
Oh, and get your car inspected by a mechanic. If you don’t know cars, it will be the best money you ever spend. You could save thousands in repairs.
If it’s the 1.6 petrol they’re relatively thirsty with little power
I know two people who had one around the same year, both had to replace the engines.
Have you been driving for awhile? A 1.6L would be very expensive to ensure as a new driver. Make sure to check how much insurance is before buying
I had a diesel GTC (I think it was a 2012?) and got rid of it after 3 months – I just started to hate everything about it very quickly and felt like it was just getting smaller and smaller the more I drove it. I felt there was no power to it and it was all in all a fairly shit drive with crappy handling. I replaced the GTC with a scirocco and that was a bit more fun until I found my current car.
As someone else said, cars are so personal you won’t know until you find the one.
i had an 04 vauxhall astra 1.4 petrol (3-door) as my starter car and it was a fantastic learner car, I’d place it above the 2010 model in the looks department too, still looks pretty decent.
sold it on when trading up but would have loved to held onto it
Good for short journeys, long hauls and curiously, [great for heist or two.](https://youtu.be/UwTdrSqadDU)
Had a 2011 2.0D, grand enough in most ways. Until the oil pump disintegrated and wrecked the engine. Mechanic was able to source another and replace it for a little less than the car was worth, and I traded it in not long after.
