What’s the alternative? People can be as negative as they want, conflate pessimism and realism with every breath they breathe, and still wind up shocked over how much doomerism guides people to occupy all spaces of real discourse where they share that they do nothing, then brag about it.
My problem with this rhetoric is that it breeds complacency. We’ve been saying stuff like “It can’t happen here”, “The long arc of history curves towards justice”, “Demographics are destiny”, and now “Renewable energy is inevitable” since forever now. Well where are we now? It HAS happened here, the long of history is curving AWAY from justice, so many minorities and zoomers align with fascists now, and for as much hay is made about the ‘unstoppable clean energy revolution’, it’s looking pretty dang stoppable since all the money is against it.
People don’t need ‘hope’ and ‘optimism’, because it’s just a hush-a-by song to lull them into a false sense of security. People need to be whipped into a terrified frenzy at all times where they feel as if their lives and everything they know and love is at stake, where if they don’t act their entire world will collapse because it literally WILL. It needs to be a determined, unrelenting, and zealous advocacy that never lets up even for a moment.
That’s how the fascists win, and they’re not even upset about anything that’s real. They exist in a constant state of rabid frenzy over stuff like brown people and queerfolk, and it’s helped them to take over the entire western world. Unless you match that energy, they’re going to roll over us every single time.
The Clean Energy Revolution Is Inevitable
Energy cannot be clean. It can be less dirty than some. But it’s never gonna be clean. It’s like thinking you can eat air
For anyone feeling down about climate change, I would recommend watching First Reformed with Ethan Hawke. It took me from despair to having some faith in humanity, even though I am not religious.
Money talks and bullshit walks. I trust the almighty dollar (and other currencies) will prevail in the end. Greedy capitalist want more money and they will take advantage of any ability to reduce cost. Renewables projects are now cheaper than fossil fuels projects 90% of the time.
The energy transition maybe stalling in America, but the rest of the world, especially China, will keep on keepin’ on. Don’t assume the world will stay the same from now on and not change at all during your life.
It’s always darkest before the dawn.
I’ll say whatever I want, I don’t take orders from heated.world.
>There’s a good reason for the statement’s growing popularity: It’s technically true!
OK
>Because while it’s true that special interests cannot stop the world’s shift toward renewable energy, they can significantly slow it.
This is the crucial point of that article.
But I think it is wrong in it’s assessment that the true observation is stated just for good feelings. To me it’s more about better planning ahead and pointing out the economical necessity to keep up on that sector for future prosperity, even when completely ignoring climate catastrophy. Because unfortunately there seems to be a significant fraction of policy makers that do not care about maintaining our habitat.
