An Israeli journalist told the BBC that there has already been a “huge public backlash” in Israel against Benjamin Netanyahu’s plan to take control of Gaza City.
Tal Schneider, political correspondent at the Times of Israel, says there is “great discontent” in Israel, with people taking to the streets in dozens of places last night to protest against the government, Gazeta Express reports.
“The government is taking steps that are very, very unpopular,” she told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.
“All public polls suggest that the public is very much against this step,” she says, adding that Netanyahu appears to be in a “bubble or in a cocoon.”
The government is “stuck in this mindset of more violent measures, instead of moving towards a diplomatic or political solution,” she adds.
