I will be driving through Germany this weekend from the Netherlands, my front windscreen has this tint film, it dims <45% and is allowed in my country. It does not come with any documentation.
Do not enter Germany with that on, you will get yourself into a world of trouble.
That’s a Paulaner Spezi Front glass!
You won’t make it far into Germany with that.
Illegal!
Front screen, co Driver Seat Window and Driver Window are not allowed to be covered with any screen etc. that is not 100% clear.
It’s to prevent others from getting more blinded than expected and to prevent you running a Red light or a Speed cam and not be identifiable through the cameras.
Having driven in both the US & Germany, I can say you are a lot more likely to get pulled over for cosmetic things like this in Germany. I would have it removed or drive a different car.
I imagine if something like this were legal in Germany I would have seen it on some car already but I have never seen anything coming even close to that. And that really stands out.
It seems driving a car is apparently easier than using Google and chatGPT for 20 seconds.
If this car is legal in NL, you will be allowed to drive it in Germany.
However, you’re more likely to get pulled over and it could happen that police will give you trouble for it.
I wouldn’t even try that, the Polizei are going to have a field day unfortunately even if it’s legal to drive in NL. We had our back window and back passenger windows tinted and have to carry a certificate, anything forward from the B pillar is highly restricted and the wind shield is a no go
Not allowed, of course. And it looks like … well, what’s the dutch word for the things that drop out or horses?
Why do we have the European Union if we don’t have consistent rules for traffic and vehicles? I understand different rules for stuff that doesn’t cross the border or hardly crosses it but at least for vehicles and traffic rules and law should be very much similar to avoid conflicts like this.
So I read some stuff and technically as long as your car is registered in the netherlands and you are a citizen of the netherlands you should be allowed to drive like this.
The main issue is that if the police or whatever government official is responsible for you car at the place you were stopped considers the tint “not safe for driving” you are not allowed to drive on german roads unless you remove the tint or prove that it is allowed in the netherlands and is no safety risk.
You will definitely be stopped though, no cop in germany will pass up on that opportunity.
It’s hard to say, some car forums say it’s no problem, others say it’s illegal, you’ll have to ask a lawyer for this one or just risk it. Worst case is ~110€ fine and you’ll have to remove the tint film before you are allowed to drive any further.
I’m seriously wondering where and how is that legal?
Also, you may want to ignore Switzerland too, in case you were planning to visit. Or at least seriously check before crossing the border.
Lol, No
I am here in comment section to see if someone mentioned exact § StVO article for this matter. Join me if you also want to see :D. bring your own coffee bitte.

Different question, yes this is illegal in Germany
But does it matter?
If it is legal in the Netherlands, doesn’t the German police have to accept the road worthiness of another EU country?
Just from a theoretical point of view
No, this is absolutely illegal, the max. legal limit for this are only for the upper 10cm of your windshield.
Your Windshield and front side windows may not be tinted at all.
StVZO Artikel 30 is against your car, you’ll run into many problems.
It’s an aftermarket tint on your front windscreen. That’s not allowed unless it’s a really small stripe at the top for sun protection.
This reminded me of the OEM tint in the glass which you can only see when you use a polarizing filter on your camera lens or on your glasses. But I don’t think that I have ever seen it in this colour combo
“Hey, dude, I think it’s totally cool! Not everyone recognizes me with a foil like this and in case of an accident or the police… I’ll just say I wasn’t in it.” /s
Yes, we have strict no fun allowed policies that need to be enforced at all times.

That is everything I had to say
No such films allowed at front window and front side windows.
You will be stopped by police and required to remove it before going on, or you transport your car to the frontier on a trailer. And it costs about 100 Euro fine.
All comments i see are stating verbatim road laws and this guy’s confirmation bias is not having it.
FAFO
Do it and see what happens. This is illegal. It does not matter from what country you originate, you follow the country’s road laws you enter. Like here in the states, we have different tinting laws varying from state to state. You will be pulled over and car impounded in some states If you are over tinted. I imagine the same and added fines for european countries. Germany is strict. Do not lean on your chatgpt confirmation bias.
A lot of people cite the rules in the StVZO. And they are correct, here in Germany you would not be allowed to register the car like this.
Problem is: the StVZO governs only vehicles REGISTERED in Germany and not those just driving in/through Germany. OPs car apparently isn’t registered here, so this law does not apply. For the same reason, some Eastern European rust buckets are allowed to drive here even if they would never pass inspection here.
I don’t know whether there is any law governing this for vehicles not registered here, but I know that there is for studded tires so there might.
In any case OP, you will pull the attention of police.
Even if they specific product isn’t allowed in Germany, it should still be okay with your Car being registered in the Netherlands if it is allowed there. But only if it isn’t removable and a legal part there … which I doubt.
To my knowledge, in such cases the regulations of the country of registration apply. If it’s allowed in the Netherlands, you can drive through Germany with it.
Oh yeah. Absolutely
Probably because that’s definitely way too much tint.
I’m not entirely sure what the limit is here but 45% is definitely blowing WAY past it…
0% tint on the front allowed
You already got the answer you came for, but I must say, man the Netherlands is fucking amazing when it comes to cars. You can put quality of life stuff like this in your car and no one gives a shit.
Unlike Germany where there’s no way at all to put this on your windshield.
Its only allowed if its for medical reasons. In Holland thats the case at least. Beside that zero tint is allowed at front.
But I do see some drive now and a again. Its mostly for people that get bad reactions from uv rays. And mostly its much more a blue purple and you only see it side ways. In front you normal can easily see the person. You can often then only see it very side ways glance that it has it on it or not.
So this is not that. So would also not even be allowed in Holland. At all times the driver has to be visible true the window. Pretty sure its the same in Germany my girlfriend is from Germany so also in Germany quite a lot. And im like 80% sure the rules are the same
Not too sure about a car that’s not registered in Germany, but personally, I wouldn’t go for it – just to be on the safe side.
I had an experience where TÜV made me remove all the tinted films from my imported car, especially on the front — windshield, driver’s side, and passenger’s side.

No, only at the back door windows and rear window. Front and driver, co driver site no

Yes, you will.
