Anyone know how to fix ip packet fragmentation error on ps5

  1. Are you on Virgin Media internet? I believe you might need to post on boards.ie in their customer support area to request a static IP (or IPv5 address).

  2. Call your ISP. If they can’t help, you might need to buy a separate router that does support this feature.

  3. This is only an issue if you are seeing other problems.

Depending on the nature of the network connection between two points on the internet there will be a maximum size for an individual network packet (a common size is 1500 bytes) – if a device tries to send a packet larger than the local maximum size over a portion of the internet the first router is supposed to break that packet apart and send it as two or more smaller packets (that’s what packet fragmentation is).

If the router in question doesn’t fragment the packet or is unable to do so for some other reason (some packets can be set by the sending equipment to not allow them to be fragmented) then the router will just not deliver the packet at all.

Virgin’s home hubs all support packet fragmentation so it’s unlikely that’s actually a problem for you. It’s more plausible that something else is happening with that test that is some weird issue between you and wherever Sony are running their test from. So unless you are actually seeing other problems I’d ignore this message.

If you are seeing other problems it’s not likely to be your router. Packet size problems often come of you are running all of your traffic over a VPN or if your ISP has a mis-configuration with the connection to your home.
