As President Zelenskyy stated, he held a conversation today with the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs.

“I informed him about contacts with partners and the current diplomatic situation. I shared our vision of the next important steps to take,” the President added.

He emphasized that Ukraine and all other European countries need lasting peace and a secure future.

“It’s important that we share the same understanding: this can be achieved through US support and European unity. We agreed to coordinate our efforts,” the head of state noted.

The presidents also discussed Ukraine’s path toward European integration.

“Ukraine has done everything necessary. It would be fair and just to open the first negotiation cluster for us and Moldova simultaneously,” Zelenskyy emphasized.

According to him, Latvia firmly supports Ukraine’s membership in both the EU and NATO.

“We also discussed the new PURL instrument, which is already functioning effectively. Latvia is ready to join. Thank you!” the President added.

New US and NATO Initiative

The US and NATO have launched a new mechanism for providing military aid to Ukraine through the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative.

The initiative envisions that all American weapons delivered to Ukraine will be paid for by European countries.

In particular, it was recently announced that Ukraine will receive US weapons worth 500 million euros, with the Netherlands covering the cost of the deliveries.

Additionally, Sweden, Denmark, and Norway will jointly fund the purchase of US defense equipment for Ukraine worth 500 million dollars.
