HEARNE, Texas (KBTX) – Physicals and well checks are often part of a family’s back-to-school routine, and a Hearne clinic is expanding its access while facing downgrade- all in an effort to cater to the community.
Healthpoint in Hearne was downgraded from two clinics to one. Even so, the community hasn’t lost health care access. In fact, this new modern clinic is expanding access.
Healthpoint recently opened a new clinic in Hearne to make it easier for Robertson County residents to get the check-ups they need.
The director of operations at Health Point, Allen Hold, told KBTX the clinic serves more than 2,200 patients. However, with this new, much larger facility, they can now serve an additional 1,500 patients each year.

According to Halth Point, the new facility is much larger, has more examination rooms and offers one additional health care provider.(kbtx)
Hold said providing health care to kids before heading back to school is essential, and this new location makes it more accessible for the community.
“It improved our presence. We’re a lot more visible in this location, obviously, because we’re located right next door to the grocery store and some retail opportunities here. So, we’re pretty excited about that,” Hold said.
The clinic offers women’s health, pediatrics, family medicine, dental, and behavioral health visitations.
During National Health Center Week, Health Point locations across the region celebrated with a well-child event. It offered hearing and vision checks, school physicals, and more.
“A lot of times, schools need different forms, paperwork filled out, anything from shot records to sports physicals, to being ready to play in activities and in extracurricular. So, we can provide that with our providers here,” explained Hold.

Health Point told KBTX that there is still time to get your kids a check-up or physical ahead of the upcoming school year.(kbtx)
According to Health Point, going back to school is a time of transition, and it’s important to get into good routines now so your kids return to school healthy.
The practice said those needing to get a checkup or physical before the school year starts still have time.
“Sports are a big part of these communities, and so whether they’re playing football, basketball, volleyball, cheer, you know, sports physicals are always, always needed. Another thing is immunizations, and then just keeping making sure that these kids are staying healthy,” elaborated Evelyn Mortimer, director of nursing at Health Point.
Local health care providers give expert advice on how to keep your kids healthy during the school year.
Mortimer said there are things parents can do to help keep kids healthy throughout the school year.
She said the key to keeping your kids healthy and ready to hit the books is to have a good sleep schedule, good hygiene, and most importantly, a well-balanced meal.
“[A] well-balanced meal looks like fruits, vegetables, protein, carbs, dairy. It’s important. That way, it can give them brain power for school, for their classroom, helps them give the energy, helps keep their immune system up to prevent the illnesses from occurring,” Mortimer added.
Health Point officials said creating healthy routines sets kids up for success in the classroom.
Additionally, with flu season creeping up, health care providers urge kids to wash their hands regularly.
Health Point’s new Hearne clinic is located at 300 Post Oak Street.
