David McWilliams has an article today on the IT saying the State has lost control of the housing market.
They look down on people who cant afford a house. They didnt get a good enough job or study hard enough in school. It’s the mentality of Fine Gael Fine Fail.
The speculators and developers make money either way so they don’t care.
You people keep voting for them and letting it happen that’s why
Jesus wept. Love how they can just pull the finger out at a moment’s notice; firstly during the pandemic, when emergency powers were necessary for everyone’s health, now because of the refugees. But where is this swift action when it comes to the *crisis* in housing?
It’s a bit of an insult to be honest
Fuck this country structure, bunch of clowns at wheel. Emigration going to soar again they’re literally driving youth away because it’s impossible to get a footing here
At least noone’s used the emergency powers to create a cloned Grand Army of the Republic… (or Grand Irish Republican Army if you like)
There’s a Baggot St Community Hospital that looks completely derelict . Will that be seized and turned into housing using these emergency powers ? Such an eyesore at present
It’s called neoliberalism.
Follow the money ……
Using our own money against us, they’re great at that.
>“We want to encourage people to come forwards, not to force anybody to have to give up their property or accommodation.”
Uh, is nobody gonna question wtf McEntee was saying here. What does it mean to “force anybody to have to give up their property”?
Had an interesting conversation today with a guy; was lamenting that the housing prices are still below 2007 levels and he couldn’t wait for it to ‘balance out’.
How many of the places they buy will be up to spec though? Sure, they’ll be better than a camp bed on in a community centre, but I assume they won’t be buying fully furnished, well insulated, energy efficient homes for this. There is loads of housing stock around the country. The problem is that most of it is shite, and it would cost 50k+ to bring it up to anything people would want to live in. Insulation is expensive as fuck.
The investors were allowed into the Irish market. Someone in the government let them in. Also many politicians are Landlords themselves and own dozens of properties.
Old farts living in old fart land with old fart values are gonna do old fart shit.
I say we euthanize ’em all and get some young ‘uns into office and just be done with the last few gens of god awful scum with too many ties to everything we’re tryin’ to move on from.
dude they pay 800k for a 2 bedroom apartment and delay the builder for 10 months because they won’t close the sale. So the builder can’t sell the rest of the apartments for 10 months because he is not “part 5” compliant… it’s a SHITSHOW
Rory Ahern argues that the Housing Crisis and the Ukrainian accommodation crisis are a political choice, and that they can be solved by the Gov temporarily taking ownership of vacant homes.
We need Zelenskyy to publicly call out Martin for not doing enough about housing
