You realize Robert Reich tried four times as Sec of Labor to force ALL public and private pension funds into sub prime mortgages? Part of his push for economically targeted investments.
His insight is garbage
One step at a time
Tesla auto workers seem happy enough making tons in stock even though they’re not in a union.
Everything should have a labor union
There’s this view that we can somehow get back to the manufacturing sector booms of the 60s with all the things that go with it – and it completely ignores that it was possible only because the rest of the world was still in ruins post WW2.
Today there’s plenty of manufacturing competition and it’ll be cheaper.
Re-shoring all our manufacturing is a fool’s errand, and not one that’ll create a panacea of good jobs.
The goal isn’t be in a union. The goal is high paying jobs with benefits, that don’t exploit workers. Unions are one way of getting that.

For fucks sake’s bobby, it won’t create jobs *period*.
The factories will be automated.
They’ll will be a handful of construction jobs, mostly highly specialized and short term so it’ll be people trucked in from out of state.
Sure, let’s have more unions for the jobs that are left, but we can’t keep ignoring automation.
Ultimately, unions are only good for union bosses and the politicians they grease.
Just getting manufacturing jobs will be a big win regardless of whether or not they are union jobs. That said, without strong demand for labor unions won’t have much bargaining power. First you need jobs then they can form unions.

Wrong
The goal is to do slightly better than what we are doing today. Retail trade and leisure and hospitality are the lowest paying sectors. You just need to do slightly better than those to improve the situation. Median income for manufacturing is about 2x the income for those sectors. https://www.bls.gov/charts/employment-situation/employment-and-average-weekly-earnings-by-industry-bubble.htm
