Rachin Ravindra continues to make a strong case as one of New Zealand’s brightest batting talents. The 25 year old left hander brought up his third Test century on Day 2 of the second Test against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo.

Coming in with New Zealand already in control, Ravindra dominated the final session and finished the day unbeaten on a 165 from just 139 balls. He hit 21 fours and two sixes.

The innings helped the visitors post a commanding 601/3 at stumps with Ravindra and Henry Nicholls putting together an unbroken 256-run stand.

Ravindra walked in at 345/3 during the 83rd over – replacing Devon Conway who had earlier scored 153. He took little time to settle, rotating strike with Nicholls before going all-in in the evening session.

He hit the century in just 104 deliveries – making it his fastest in Test cricket so far. By stumps, he looked set for a possible double hundred with New Zealand leading by 476 runs.

This is Ravindra’s third Test century and his seventh 50-plus score in the format. In just 17 Tests (32 innings), he has already scored 1,224 runs at an average above 42.

Interestingly, two of his three hundreds have come away from home where he averages nearly 49. This effort also marks his eighth international century across formats, achieved in only 50 matches for New Zealand.
