Well I’m sure that will go down a treat with a significant proportion of Tory voters.
Specifically those who voted for Brexit for xenophobic/racist reasons. Only to have more brown immigrants than ever.
People like my racist grandad and his even more racist thick as mince wife are going to be raging about this
I’m going to say something that I hope doesn’t veer into racism (i know I know, sentences like that never end well :p) but whilst I’m broadly in favour of immigration and free movement, I’m much more open to European immigration than wilder afield. I think it might in part be because I’ve considered moving to another European country to work and live, as I’m sure many younger people have, so in a sense it feels more mutual. I can’t say moving to India would ever appeal though :/
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had some great Indian friends and think they have a fascinating culture (and nope, I’m not just talking about the food XD), but at the same time I have run into language barriers at say the GPs before because of strong Indian accents… which I think is a legitimate issue, with communication being so crucial in such situations (although I do have a slight auditory thing that may be partly at fault too – accents generally throw me)
I dunno, I think I’m trying to reconcile my pretty liberal perspective with a gut feeling that I’m not too happy about this policy direction… I have no such qualms about Hong Kong peeps coming over though… but I guess that’s for very different reasons… going to have to reflect on this one… maybe I’m just a racist now 😮
*edit:* for everyone rushing over to actually call me a racist, which I obviously facetiously preempted in this post, consider this… I’ve said on the whole I’m probably still for the policy (because I’m largely in favour of immigration generally), I did bring up potential language issues but also acknowledged that could as much be a personal issue on my part (the auditory thing) and I tried to make the point that my overall impression of Indian people has been positive (good Indian friends)… my main point was that the policy gave me pause in a way that European immigration doesn’t necessarily do, and in subsequent comments I narrowed that down as likely being due to concerns about the economic disparities between India/UK and India’s larger population… so I think an immigration policy will most likely need some sort of quotas rather than just a pure skill/point based entry system… in essence I think it’s just a more complicated issue than immigration from our nearest neighbours, but I worry with Boris’ weakened negotiating position we could end up on the back foot
I’d make one further point too – I do think my position is pretty liberal, and I like to think of myself as open-minded enough to change my views after some deliberation… I don’t think it serves anyone to just say ‘nah mate you racist’ because it just means people bottle up their thoughts and then when someone comes along who says ‘the quiet part out loud’ they flock to them, which is why we end up with popularist governments… we need to be able to have more nuanced discussions about contentious and charged issues like immigration without just resorting to name-calling, because unfortunately that’s how you lose votes (and get a fecking brexit)… now personally I don’t care too much about how I’m received because I know I’m as likely to be replying to a 14 year old as someone with any real experience, and I still did get some interesting replies to consider and respond to… so I’m glad I posted… even if I did get called a racist a fair few times :p
I’ve no issue with this.
At the same time – Brexit voters are some of the stupidest people on the planet.
A collection of absolute rubes.
Fine by me. Can’t wait to see how this goes down with my Brexiteer parents. Worth noting that the UK’s immigration policy, even just for tourist visas, for Indians has been pretty regressive over the years. India has reciprocated by making it harder for Brits to move to India. Speaking here as someone who went through the agony of applying for an Indian employment visa. Will this be policy be reciprocal and make it easier for Brits to work in India?
We were told that would be a condition of future trade deals with India if we were to leave the EU. Shockingly, we need India more than they need us and this is the price of continuing to do business with them in a meaningful capacity. They will not be the only country asking for this, other countries will take note. Those who voted to Leave are not going to like this, but they won so can get over it.
But, but, but brexit….foreigners….sovereignty.
Etc
I’ll bring it up next time with my Brexiteer in-laws who said, and I quote, «because of the EU London is a game of “find the white man”»
*grabs popcorn*
Well, there you go you Brexiter wankers .. Reap what you sow .. (We had it all , and you fkd it, you stupid cunts)
Ha ha ha. Looking forward to the creation & sudden influx into r/LeopardsAteMyRacistBrexitFace
Wait I thought all the migrants were going to Rwanda, this is so not right Michael
This country is becoming a horrible place live. Not just because of what Boris is doing but because of those that see what Boris is doing and do nothing.
More Indian immigration in effect means more Indian elites and the Indian ruling class moving in and push home prices further up. Causing capital outflow and braindrain to India and harming the vast majority of the Indian people. I cant see any reasons for leftists to support this and I think racist right wing voters would be very against this as well.
EU movement was a two way street, plenty of Brits moved to other parts of the continent.
Indian freedom of movement would be one way, India to UK… Is this what the Brexit voting lot really wanted?
Shower of twats
While India remain on Russia’s side we should not be proceeding with any discussions
We have traded Europeans coming to the U.K. for work for Indians. At least with the EU we had benefits too.
That’s cool, we need more doctors and professionals.
So much for the Brexit promises of taking back control and reducing the number of migrants coming to the UK resulting in a lack of housing, exploiting our benefit system and crippling the NHS due to their sheer numbers.
Oh hang in Brexit was never about that. It was only ever about enabling the Tories and their cronies that bankroll them to further exploit as much as possible the citizens and public purse in the UK for personal gain whilst not having to submit to EU regulations that protected us.
This will also pump house prices up. A favourite topic on Uk Reddit.
We got a large Indian community and I’ve never seen a problem. They work right across all sectors and have good family and moral values. Only got one issue with immigration and that is the government need to match it with public spending. Ie more hospital beds, school places, police and transport
So many ungrateful traitors of this country in this sub, full of Corbynistas (aka communist anti-christ)
This deal works wonders, and if you ever think Brexit is a failure I’d advise you to take a long and hard look at your passports.
It’s blue, as promised…
Bring it on, send the migrants to Rwanda and ship in more from India so they can take more work away from British public.
I am nit against other race, but puzzled why we are allowing for migration from India.
I voted for brexit (happy with my vote), more immigration from India sounds good to me, got a lot of British-Indian friends never had a single problem with Indians.
At least the majority of Indians speak English, we get a lot of Polish people in my town and 90% don’t speak English and have no desire to learn it. Whilst the majority are fine you would be shocked at some of the issues the criminal minority cause. Just in case your interested why people in my area aren’t keen on EU immigration, instead of jumping to a pre decided conclusion, I have listed some examples below.
There are everyday linguistical issues which cost the taxpayer a lot of money just for example: doctors surgery permanently have paid translators around otherwise they delay every appointment whilst waiting for a translator.
Landlord exploitation – they raised rent 300% as Polish workers sleep 3 people per room, which gave landlords the perfect excuse to triple rents for everyone. This Polish couple get first refusal on every rented property (BBC news investigated my town during the EU Referendum) which they advertise first in Poland – so the best properties don’t even appear in the UK rental market.
A small criminal minority of the Polish people have done stuff like kill swans, roast them in the park in front of children and eat them, then abused the RSPCA and Police when they have turned up. There are 7 recognised money laundering barbers run by Polish people to funnel money from their illegal trades. There was an illegal puppy trafficking gang who brought unvaccinated dogs by car from Poland, forged their vaccination records and sold them, this resulted in the deaths of dozens of dogs and arrests by the police after a 2 year investigation by the RSPCA. Also in my county alone we have had over 400 vulnerable Polish people in just 18 months found to be modern day slaves rounded by gangs in Poland and kidnapped so they can work in fields and the gang members steal their wages. All of those examples took place in a 18 month period btw… thats the tip of the iceberg. We have had more convictions for Polish gangs enslaving people in my area in the last fifteen years than we have for all other slavery convictions in the last millennium since slavery was outlawed in 1066.
So I think to say that everyone who is anti EU immigration is racist/xenophobe is incredibly ignorant and grossly oversimplifying the issue. There are an absolute ton of problems that arise from unregulated immigration even if the majority of the immigrants from the EU are fine, you can’t stop the criminal minority abusing the system when the system has no form of checks whatsoever on who is coming in. At least most of the Indians speak English so if they have been enslaved they can ask someone for help. At least if they do something wrong the Police can communicate it to them rather than them getting violent instantly. The previous system under EU rules couldn’t be trusted to prevent exploitation.
Expecting to be downvoted into oblivion for this comment as it goes against this subs views on the EU. But even still I just want to make it clear that there are very real issues arising from unrestricted immigration from the EU where the people don’t speak English.
Get Boris out he’s messing England up worst than May.
The visa requirements to enter us/uk is redicilously difficult, you have to be a highly skilled employee from a reputable company or a guy with deep pockets that make Europeans look poor.
Both cases it a loss for India, brain and Money drain
Hopefully that will be both ways, GOA here I come baby!!.
I have no issue with either european or Indian migration to the UK.
But we were getting a hell of a lot more bang for our buck with European immigration.
India will send doctors, accountants, software engineers by the million. Competing for the jobs that we actually want to do. They aren’t going to fill the labour gap in agriculture, the care industry, slaughter houses etc.
If you can afford to fly here you’re allowed to stay, have to get a makeshift boat and risk your life because of genuine persecution or war? Fuck off to Africa….
Yay Tories eh.
Brexit voters will be happy they got exactly what they voted against.
The UK is genuinely allergic to training its own workforce.
U.K. Sold down the river again by the international lier Boris Johnson screwed BREXIT now he is sucking up to a Putin puppet the man can sink no lower.

I’m incredibly against this. Firstly how does this benefit me as a citizen I’ve lost my rights to live, work and study in 26 other European countries and gain nothing in return. Easier work visa in the it field who will just flood the job market and lower it salaries (in the industry I work) is a negative to me.
This actually causes me harm for me, not only am I competing more for jobs, multiple companies will just target jobs at these visa workers pay shut, have shit contracts, lower the bar. You see it in the US with hb1 visas.
