In real life, Eva Peron was famous for making speeches from the balcony of the presidential palace in Buenos Aires.
The play makes a feature of this as the character stands on an artificial balcony onstage to address the people by singing the signature song “Don’t Cry For Me, Argentina.”
The current production has come up with a new approach. Don’t build a balcony on stage, just use the actual balcony of the Palladium Theatre. So the character does literally address the masses every night.
The paying audience watch inside via a video feed.
The singing is live, the orchestra is live.
It’s a very clever conceit.
Either that, or its the queue for Angus Steak House.
We saw this on Thursday- waited outside for 90 min and worth every sore muscle (on holiday and had walked 15K steps prior). My husband isn’t a theatre guy and he had goosebumps. Was up front and got amazing shots.
Snow White will appear with a fawn, couple of rabbits and a squirrel.
Queue for Five Guys
Dunno, ask someone?
So basically currently at the London palladium evita is being down, of which stars Rachel Ziegler. In this show, of which I may not spoil, Jamie Lloyd has decided to make Eva person come outside because that’s how he directs. So many gather to watch her every night. (This is my daughter typing)
All you have to do is just ask any of those people
The production of Evita at the Palladium puts her on the actual balcony, singing to a real crowd instead of one built inside the theatre. People gather to watch the live performance which is also filmed and broadcast inside.
The choir is also outside. I took my daughter a few weeks ago.

I was just there today. One of those small things that makes living in a city like London special.
Protesting an Argentinian immigrant.
Far right Argentinians yet again.
Jamie Lloyd loves an outside moment. There was an outdoor sequence in his Sunset Blvd.

It was amazing! I wish I could attach the video, but it won’t let me.
