My dad just sent me this – it’s the Sue Ryder charity shop in Pinner. What can we do besides smashing down the window?!

  1. I would call 101 before breaking a window, I wouldn’t want you getting a criminal record.

  2. It’s gonna stink by the time Dorothy opens up on Monday morning. Foxes love to piss on things and it hums.

  3. “There when it matters”, well apparently not!

  4. Go round the back and force the fire escape? Ask the fire brigade? Shove food (raw mince) through the letter box and tip a bottle of water out?

  5. That’s ridiculous that no one has helped. It’s probably already died of thirst.

  6. Is the poor fox still alive? Is there a letterbox in the door to at least get some food and water through to it?

Contact the police on 101. Find a local locksmith to ask their advice on getting in – and see if the police will give the okay to provide access, like they would with a dog trapped in a car (which is an emergency situation obviously)

Nice to see the RSPCA are still maintaining their absolute *zero* standard for care about actually helping animals in need…unless there is media attention to be had obviously. They’ve become a money-grabbing joke of an organisation…no longer fit for purpose.

  7. How did the fox get in? If it’s still in there, it’ll be in a bad way and quite dehydrated. The shop has had enough time to deal with it, it would be lawful at this point to force entry as an offence is being committed under the animal welfare act.

Its been a week, tell the sue ryder lot you’re breaking in unless someone opens the shop within the next hour.

  8. What is the point in the rspca if they won’t help a trapped animal ?

Would suggest posting on local Facebook groups or Next Door if you haven’t already! Hope someone can help the poor thing

Where is the manager of the shop? Why is it shut? Someone has a key. This seems so insane.

  9. Call 111 and say you hear the voice of a kid inside. When they come and find just the fox you just said that it must have been the fox screaming. Easy

  10. wtf? how hard is it for whoever owns it to just come over and open the fucking door? Animal abusing psychopaths

  11. I’ve got a friend who works with wildlife (up north, unfortunately) and she has just called the closest Sue Ryder shop to this one (it’s at Harrow on the Hill). The number is 0208 427 5177, for anyone who wants to follow up.

My friend spoke to a woman who confirmed they have received reports of the fox, and they have passed it onto the head office who are “dealing with it”, but she wasn’t sure what they were planning to do.

My friend asked if there was an area keyholder, who could provide access to the shop but the woman wasn’t sure and said her manager would be back shortly.

Maybe the other shop manager could approve the use of a local locksmith? That might be the best bet…

  12. Poor foxy. Surely if nothing else it’s in the shops interests to get the fox out so they don’t have a shop covered in fox ablutions as well as a dead fox. It’s so cruel and unnecessary.

  13. Its not just cruel, its fiscal incompetence because in this heat the cleanup is going to cost an awful lot more than it would had done to arrange for them to be let out. Its not just contamination from the wee but decomposition

  14. Call Pumpkins Wildlife Hospital on 07988444376 / 07988444290

They are based in Rickmansworth and specifically specialise in fox assistance, rehabilitation and re-release.

EDIT- I have messaged them on Instagram and received an auto reply advising the need to be contact over mobile; the message also confirms they also are definitely taking foxes in- please OP, give them a call until 5pm, they will be able to action mechanisms to help.

  15. I’ve just looked up an image the shop and there is a low letterbox on the right hand door. Put a plastic takeaway tray through with some water in, and use a waterbottle with a sports cap to squirt water through a straw in the letterbox to top it up to the brim.

Put loads of wet cat or dog food through the letterbox next to the water.

Hopefully it isn’t too late to save the poor thing.

  16. I know it’s the name of the charity but I like that the sign implies it’s some old bag called Sue that is refusing to help

  17. I live near Harrow, I’ll try to get some food and water through the letterbox tomorrow if I can, I can’t get there today 🙁

  18. It always staggers me how disorganised chain companies are when it comes to buildings issues. You’ll never reach anyone knows who to contact, and anyone you do get through to will act like there’s no chain of responsibility and fob you off.

  19. Contact the Fox Project! Or Greenwich Wildlife Network (they’re out of area but might be able to give advice).

I’m a wildlife volunteer and would be happy to come by to try to help, if help is needed. The Fox Project is definitely the first place to try, though.

  20. Is it still alive?
    Wtf
I would have called 101 ages ago and if they did nothing that windows being smashed

  21. I’m in manchester but I rang moonstone rescue who said another guy they know was on the way but doubtful the fox was alive. I can’t believe the local ppl all posted about this on social media but did absolutely nothing. If you see an injured or hurt/starving animal take responsibility and do something about it yourself. Don’t walk on by. OP- do you have an update ? I’m appaled this w as posted about and it took me 2 mins upon seeing it to get someone to act from across the country.

  22. Well, that shop ain’t gonna be open for a while even if the fox is alive by the time they get to it. I’ve worked with foxes, and just one day worth of excrement is VILE, and that’s in well ventilated outdoor enclosures. I can’t even begin to imagine how much that shop (and all the inventory) is going to stink 🤢

  23. Sometimes you’ve got to stop asking for permission and following the rules. Smash the window, the worst you’ll get is a slap on the wrist. The worst the fox will get if you don’t do it, is death.

    Do the right thing.
