As I can imagine, many of us have heard that in order to obtain a Luxembourg pension, you must have worked 10 years in the country.

This is partially truth, in the sense that you must at least worked 1 year in Lux and 10 years in total in EU, but does not entitle for a pension from Lux. The info is decribed in the following info:

A work mate who is the comission union, told me that you can have granted the minimum pension of Luxembourg if:
– you worked at least 10 years in Lux ( 120 months)
– your final country before retirement is Lux

More or less it is what is described in the article, as it is understood that the periods worked in Lux if you do not have the 10 years, you will receibed the pension from each country pension member.

The only difference would be that if you finish your carreer in Lux and have had more than 10 years working here, Lux CNAP will manage your pension and coordinate with the other EU members right?

Maybe someone could clarify/confirm or correct the info

  2. I did not know the second criteria. What happens if the last country of employment was not an EU/European nation?

  3. The pension *administrator* seems to be the country you were most recently resident/employed in (ie. paid social security into their country). That’s the country to whom you’d apply. So if your final year of working was in Lux, you’d apply to Lux.

    The *funds* you receive are calculated with weighting across all the countries in which you lived. Notably Luxembourg is more generous, so if you worked here for 20 years, you’d have done well. Lucky baby boomers.
