Lithuania is investigating the possible presence of a Russian underwater drone in its territorial waters, according to the State Border Guard Service.
As reported by Delfi on August 7, the incident allegedly took place in early August near the town of Nida, where residents attending the “Regatta in the Curonian Lagoon” spotted unusual activity.
“It was visible how a border guard boat rushed toward the underwater drone. It looked unusual, as border guards almost never patrol this part of the Curonian Lagoon,” one eyewitness told the outlet.
On August 7, Aistė Žalnerytė, Senior Public Relations Specialist of the Coast Guard Unit of the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service, confirmed the sighting of a suspicious object.

“On August 2, an object was detected in the Curonian Lagoon which may have crossed the border of the Republic of Lithuania from the Russian side. The Pre-Trial Investigation Department of the Criminal Investigation Board of the State Border Guard Service is currently reviewing the circumstances. A decision on whether to launch a pre-trial investigation will be made afterward,” she stated.
Earlier, a drone that crossed into Lithuanian airspace from Belarus was discovered at a military training ground.
Preliminary analysis indicates the drone is a Russian “Gerbera”—a decoy model designed to resemble Iranian-made Shahed drones and used to mislead air defense systems.
