The 2026 Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Belfast will be a gathering the city will “never forget” it has been claimed after the 2025 Fleadh celebrations came to a close.

Wexford hosted this year’s all-Ireland Fleadh and witnessed a world record broken and even an appearance by pop superstar Ed Sheeran.

The Fleadh was attended by Belfast deputy Lord Mayor Paul Doherty, who said he spent “an incredible few days in Wexford witnessing all that the Fleadh has to offer”.

“Friends in Derry still talk about the 2013 Fleadh and there is huge excitement that it’s coming to Belfast next year,” the SDLP councillor said.

The event in Belfast, to be held in early August next year, will be just the second time it has been held in the north.

“This event will be a major economic driver for our city and a fantastic celebration of Irish culture. These past few days in Wexford have been unforgettable and I know Belfast will look to top it,” Mr Doherty said.

“There will be something for everyone at the Belfast Fleadh and I’m committed to working with council to ensure it represents the best of what we have to offer.

“Hosting the Fleadh is a rare occasion and I’m sure it’s one our city will never forget.”

A Guinness World Record was broken last week at the Fleadh after more than 1,000 people formed the largest céilí band to play together in history.
