cannot fathom craving alcohol that bad please seek help
Had this same issue trying to buy non alcoholic beer one time for a relative who was coming over for lunch and doesn’t drink alcohol. Absolutely ridiculous rule.
What’s the actual point behind this rule does any one know 🤔
It was a full crate of 24 for €20 before Stephen Donnelly stuck his big nose in.
Fail to prepare, prepare to fail.
Fear ridden nanny state. We’ll never be any much better.
Why not get them on Saturday ? 🤷🏼♂️👀
This law is so ridiculously stupid, it is embarrassing that it even exists. It was oppressive and cringe-worthy when people went to mass, but is even more nonsensical today.
Not only should a bill be introduced immediately to remove it, but sais bill should contain the section “It is the duty of all citizens to deliver a kick to the crotch at every available opportunity to those in favour of such stupid laws”.
One of those laws you don’t give a shit about until you do….eventually get your drink and then you don’t give a shit again
shouldn’t you be at mass, son?
Spare a thought for the poor hungover staff that get a bit of a lie in on the Sunday before having to deal with ye people bitching and moaning and asking me to break the law cos you want a bottle of wine with your dinner like it’s my fault the law exists.
I dont drink at home so I’d only really be buying cans to bring to an event of some sort but the point is more a law dictated by the church which should have nothing to do with law or governance.
Lots of people do the shopping of a Sunday morning for the week. Should be able to pick up a few cans or a bottle of wine for the dinner.
There’s an easier argument to be made for not allowing children go to church than this shit.
If it’s happening to you every Sunday maybe should cop onto the fact it’s 12.30 serving on a sunday
Nanny staters must nanny, far be it for our public sector betters not to be allowed infantilise us poor dumb plebs….
I used to get so outraged by the 12:30pm and 10:30am rule, and then one day last year I was at an O’Brien’s off licence one weekday morning just as the shutters were lifting. I went inside and was followed by approx 8 of the roughest degenerates you could ever come across, all racing to the till with their booze. It made me think maybe we DO need to physically prevent people from buying booze.
Of course, I do ultimately think that I’m a grown adult, no addiction problem, and I shouldn’t be restricted just because there are a small number of people with massive personal issues who will be getting obliterated regardless. But that morning I could see the reason behind the restriction.
Jesus Christ are you that fucking desperate for a drink.
Maybe be smarter and plan ahead.
If it’s every Sunday then you clearly have an issue. Just but them Saturday evening.
Boils my balls!! I like to do my shopping early and on occasion when I want to get a few cans or bottles… this shite!! 🙄🙄
I like to do the big shop early on the weekend because it’s just out of the way
Drives me round the bend that you can’t buy drink before 10:30, obviously I’m not buying wine or beers at 9am to drink there and then (and even if I was, it’s my own business)
A daft rule but other countries are worse, spent a few weeks in Norway this year, in the supermarket you can only by beers to a max of 4.7abv and only before 8pm on a week day and 6pm on a Saturday, no sales at all on a Sunday. Came as a shock on the first weekend there!
I barely drink at all and this catches me every time im buying a bottle of something as a gift such a stupid law imo
The way the Irish governments babies it’s populous is the worst thing about Ireland.
The government tells you when you can buy drink, until what time you can stay in a nightclub etc.
Adults should be able to make decisions for themselves
I’m really interested to see what they do the morning of thie NFL game in September. Kickoff is 2.30pm
They’ve spent 10 million getting this event held here. They’re trying to convince 30k Americans that Ireland is the greatest place ever and to vacation here multiple times more
These yanks are very used to midday games and drinking from mid morning beforehand. They’ll be expecting a ridiculous piss up for the day in Dublin
Do the government accept the sheer embarrassment of thousands of Americans rocking up to pubs (or fan events around the stadium) at 11.30 only to be told they can’t be served due to some ridiculous antiquated law
Or are the pubs basically given the nod and wink that all will be fine and to belt away
Its a weird rule and I lived here for several years before I even knew about it – until one day when my wife asked me to pick up a bottle of wine for the sunday roast and they told me I had to wait 15 minutes before I could buy it. I couldn’t believe it.
But I have lived in places where you can’t buy booze after 8pm or at all on Sunday (and they shut the bars by midnight on Saturday). And where dancing was not allowed on a Sunday! So I can’t really complain too much.
