My private contacts, refugees from the Donetsk region, are completely shocked by this discussion. They fear losing their homeland to Kyiv (Klitschko is a very suspicious figure to me these days), some for the second time. If they actually voluntarily renounce their homeland, the Ukrainian government will have real problems with these people. Being conquered by the Russians is bad enough, but a de facto betrayal of one’s own government in favor of other parts of Ukraine would be a catastrophe. That would tear society apart. The Russians are playing a perfidious game here, and the West is supporting it. I hope Zelenskyy remains steadfast!

I agree with Zelensky’s sentiment, but realistically how else does the war end? Maybe if Putin is removed (permanently…), but other than that I just don’t see a realistic end. We can inflict more pain via sanctions, but Russia’s pastime seems to be enduring misery
