  1. As a scouser. I’m not really surprised. Massive anti-establishment feelings here.

  2. Just play the match!. No God Save the king, no taking a knee , no armbands.

Remember Hearts fans being criticised for jeering during a minutes silence for the Pope! wtf why have it?

  3. Liverpool fans boo the national anthem. It’s what they do. They’ve been doing it for years and yet every single time it happens the media makes a big song and dance about it. The best thing is how shocked they are every time it happens. What would be an actual surprise is Liverpool fans not booing the national anthem.

  4. It’s a loathsome anthem. National anthems should be about the country and the people in it, not bootlicking of one singular person who represents a well-outdated establishment built upon blood and theft. Long overdue for a change to any number of other options. Well done Liverpool fans.

  5. Shocker, Scousers feel inclined to boo the anthem at every possible occasion.

Here’s the same reason as last time and the time before, but changed slightly so it doesn’t look like my mate’s homework.

  6. Just get on with the match and leave politics out of it.

  7. Doesn’t happen at Everton.

A liverpool game in london i would love to see official data of where alot of those fans where actually from.

The scouse not english thing is a thing largely blown up by Liverpool football fans from outside the city of Liverpool.

  8. Oh no. How could I possibly cope. Newsflash Cardiff fans booed the anthem at the FA Cup final 17 years ago too. Liverpool fans boo it all the time. Wales fans boo it all the time. Go somewhere else with your fake outrage!

  9. Who cares. Its a pile of shit.

I dont boo it, let those who sing it, sing it, but I get why youd boo it as well.

  10. It’s Liverpool. It happens each and every time and is this really worth being covered as a news whenever this happens?

  11. Pretty sure this article comes out every time Liverpool play at Wembley

  12. Yeah, get rid of any messaging in football. No anthem. No kneeling. No one minute silences. Keep the real world at bay.

  13. This happens every time and for some reason it’s a news story every single time, like it’s never happened before.

Slow news day and something for idiots to be offended about.

  14. Wait I’m confused, the article obviously mentions Liverpool fans booing the national anthem, but where’s the mention of the scumbag contingent of Palace fans jeering and making noise during a minute silence for Jota and his brother?

Booing the national anthem > showing utter disrespect to two dead footballers I suppose?

  15. “As reasons explained”? What a repulsively shitty title that doesn’t mean anything. They may as well write “event participated in by some”.

  16. I don’t live in Liverpool but good on them. Fuck the royals and their nonce defending freeloaders.

  17. Honestly the anthem is horrible and there’re plenty of other songs that are about British or English identity that could be played instead of the bore of a song we have rn

  18. why does the rest of the country absolutely lose their minds over anything to do with Liverpool or scousers? Can’t think of any other city that has haters like we do and we couldnt give a fuck 🤣

  19. In all fairness, and I say this as a Newcastle fan, pretty much most places outside of London, especially northern cities have an absolute right to be pissed off the with the establishment.
That’s before we even get to the whole beliefs over whether we should have a monarchy or not, and if someone believes in god or not.

  20. What are we asking the imaginary sky Daddy to save Charles from exactly?

  21. Good. Dirty family that sponge off of the country and highlight that “not everybody is born equal, some people are born superior to others”. Country would be better rid of the paedophile supporting scum.

  22. What is the point in national anthems?

And why do they only seem to be performed at sporting events?

  23. Don’t really see why the national anthem should be played at a football game. I mean for national teams between 2 countries sure, but 2 domestic teams playing in a final or a glorified friendly it just makes no sense to sing a few lines of the national anthem. Nobody is interested

  24. Over 60% of the fans in that ground are not scousers always remember that, it’s the only home ground I know that is filled with away fans

  25. Scousers despise everything and everyone that doesn’t exist within the boundaries of Liverpool.

  26. On top of all that, it’s a terrible anthem.

Where’s the pride in the country, it’s people and their achievements?

You all stand there asking the almighty to save the one of you who needs saving the least, it’s actually bizarre.

What confuses me is that there isn’t more of an appetite in England for replacing it.
You have much better songs you could use.

  27. Get a proper suit, do up your tie and sing the national anthem.

  28. Liverpool folk boo the anthem because there is a strong iconoclast left wing identity, and a lot of people there have Irish heritage.

I think it’s uncouth, and I wouldn’t do it (even as a anti royalist), but it’s weird how authoritarian people get when it gets to the royal family. Didn’t everyone hate Charles before Lizzie kicked the bucket?

  29. I never understand this outrage when half the country seems to hate this country and government at the moment.

  30. to be fair, the current king is an absolute tosser.

  31. Because they wanted to put Liverpool in a “planned decline”. They have every right. Fuck em

  32. It was decided after the 2008 FA Cup final between Cardiff and Portsmouth that national anthems wouldn’t be played in any future Wales/England club matches because of both sides booing eachother’s anthem.

I don’t see why the FA don’t adopt the same approach with Liverpool.

  33. Whether the anthem is booed or not, can we all agree that it’s a little odd that our national anthem is dedicated to one privileged man living in the largest council house in the country? Are there not other things we could celebrate??

  34. I don’t particularly care that much, but Liverpool fans also have the biggest chip on their shoulder.

  35. We do it every time. Why do people need to report on it when everyone knows why?

The “news” in this country are so fucking useless and repetitive.

  36. Honestly, who cares? It’s a boring shite anthem anyways

  37. It’s a shit anthem anyway. Almost every other national anthem on the planet celebrates the people and the country, but ours is a glorification of a particular person of power. Liverpool fans boo it for historical and cultural reasons but more folks in the UK should boo it on the grounds of it just being rubbish. Jerusalem, I Vow To Thee My Country and Land of Hope and Glory would all be infinitely better.

I love how the usual rags have to make a big deal out of it every time it gets booed at a major event. Always the same types of people who are ironically quick to call others snowflakes while clutching their pearls at the beloved royal anthem getting drowned out at a footie game.

  38. More people should be booing that, I’m a Geordie and, as far as I can tell, we don’t boo God Save The Queen / King and we really fucking should.

  39. Who cares? Carry on shagging the flag if you want to. Not everyone wants to sing about a God they don’t believe in saving a King they don’t believe it. Get over it.

  40. Good. Screw the king and screw the monarchy. I’d say good riddance to such an archaic system.

  41. When the queen died, there was a minutes silence before every game of football in Scotland, and, it was largely suspected that Celtic fans would disrupt this minutes silence given their hatred of the monarchy and establishment.

It was decided by the footballing authorities, that in order to make sure Celtic fans didn’t dishonour the minutes silence, unlike every other game, the minute would be marked with applause instead of silence.

[Celtic fans reaction to the minute’s applause](https://youtu.be/jT0GGVkBC2k?si=TkTsjUFqlWAH497p)

  42. I’m a Liverpool fan. I don’t live in Liverpool, but I understand why they boo the anthem. That being said I don’t mind our national anthem, at least it is short. The Italian one goes on forever, the French one too, and the Americans drag theirs out as long as anyone can possibly do.

The British national anthem is so short at the Olympics, it’s like a text message notification versus a full ring tone.

Surely, there should be more condemnation of the people booing the minutes silence for a player who lost his life a few weeks ago.

  43. I’d boo it too, considering the Royal Family protect paedophiles.

  44. Lots of people identify with their city before their country, me included. I’m Manc first and everything else a distant second.

But scousers are anti-monarchy largely because they’re an Irish city with a UK postcode and an indecipherable accent.

  45. Sousers aren’t english, until the tax revenue and infastructure payments come in from westminster and fund local improvements.
