  4. This was my concern all along since we started this CO2 journey that the models would understate the warming affect, partly because of political reasons. There was always a range on those models with a high range and a low range, but we always assumed it was gonna be in the middle. There’s no reason to assume that.

    I’d like to note that multiple independent climate scientists have begun to describe these past few years as a phase change/regime switch/etc, whether by examining warming trends or more discrete anomalies like the cold blob near Greenland, among others.

    The capacity of any species to adapt to a changing environment is strongly dependent on the rate of change. The rate (0.2C per decade) was already outpacing past mass extinction events.

    And we are still nowhere near decreasing global greenhouse gas emissions.

  12. Get a bunch of scientists together and they’re going to end up with very conservative estimates. Then add corporate/political pressure… well, let’s just say we shouldn’t underestimate their propensity to understate.

    I think thats where I found out about deep-drill geothermal, which looks promising.

    Hanson and other papers argue that warming is faster now due to the cooling effect that particulates from shipping fuels and pollution _had_, but which is now removed as those sources of pollution have reduced.

    We know that human emissions of CO2 are at an all time high, probably peaked in China, but likely to be a long plateau .. adding a lot of CO2 for the next 2 decades – ie. we will keep warming.

    tldr : we are near +1.5C now, warming at around +0.3C per decade and heading to +2.4C by 2045 – this is NOT GOOD.
