White folks have always been the majority of welfare recipients—but welfare itself was built to benefit white families first.

  1. As was the original affirmative action, go figure

  2. And racists will take this info and say: “look! You minorities never deserved welfare, it was only meant for us good white people!”

  3. Why are they so obssessed with skin color and ethnicity?

  4. Black and brown people are meant to pay taxes so poor white folks don’t have to work. Interesting.

  5. A majority of Whites are on welfare because the majority of Americans are white. But if you adjust for population size to look at welfare participation rates by race rather than the raw numbers or shares of all welfare recipients, the picture changes notably.

    13% white

    28% Hispanic

    36% Black

This means that while the largest absolute number of welfare recipients are White (because Whites are the largest racial group in the U.S.), Black and Hispanic populations have a higher likelihood—relative to their population size—of receiving welfare benefits.

So, when not just looking at the share among recipients but the percentage within the racial populations, Black Americans have the highest welfare participation rate, followed by Hispanics, with Whites having the lowest participation rate despite being the majority of recipients overall.

  6. Crazy how we digressing into racism again simply cause our eggs got too expensive.

  7. I had read once that black Southerners would write ELEANOR ROOSEVELT to please distribute some food to them. The problem was that distribution was administered by local whites who gave the food first to other whites.

  8. Love this women! That was a rollercoaster for me

This is the grandmother we need in the world!

  9. (1) White people are not the majority of welfare recipients. White people represented ~35% of SNAP recipients in 2023, for instance. For those playing at home, 35% isn’t a majority. The most recent racial demos I can find for TANF (2010) puts white people at 31.8% of recipients.

    (2) White people are significantly underrepresented among welfare recipients, and racial minorities are overrepresented relative to their share of the population.

Why don’t people do literally 30 seconds of research before posting garbage like this? Or just even do a gut check (“Is it really likely that white people are a majority of welfare recipients?”)?
