One of the supporters of a proposed “behind-the-meter” power plant and data center in Chickasha believes the availability of natural gas for the project is a perfect fit.

Bond Payne, a former chief of staff to Gov. Kevin Stitt and now a developer, stands behind the large effort of California businessman Chet Hitt who came into Chickasha and created an economic boom for the city and region.

His latest plan, taking over the city’s industrial park and planning a data center to be powered by natural gas, would create an estimated 3,000 jobs.

It would also become a major customer of Energy Transfer, the Dallas-based pipeline firm with two major gas lines serving the industrial park. A ceremonial ground-breaking, featuring the Governor, was held in June.

The project was featured in the Sunday edition of the Oklahoman newspaper.
