There’s a pretty big collectors market for golliwog merch..so much of the stuff was dumped that it’s become rarer than hens teeth. Some of the buyers include museums putting together collections of examples of racist memorabilia. It’s a bit like Nazi memorabilia..collectors themselves aren’t necessarily racist or support the ideology. Lemmy used to collect Hitler Youth stuff and was definitely not a Nazi.Oprah Winfrey has a collection of Golliwogs.

It’s missing an article, I think someone needs to be bold and call it “the golly brooch collection”, as if to imply there’s no point in even entertaining any other antiquated racist brooch collections.
Whereas, calling it “a golly brooch collection” sets the wrong tone, people will wonder”there are others?”, “are they better?”, ” what even is better, less racist, more racist?”, “who am I!?” and so on. A car boot sale or whatever is no place for that level of existentialism.

Years ago when I was in my teens, I was helping out a relative at the RDS antiques fair when this old, very fancy lady came over and tilted her head down to get a look at the antique jewellery in the glass cabinet and all of her teeth fell out onto the counter. Not dentures, individual teeth. Weirdest thing.
