Trump loves tariffs so much that he has introduced “export tariffs” now. Nvidia and AMD must pay 15% tariffs on AI chips sold to China.

  1. Nvidia and AMD seem to dominate the AI Chip market with no real signs of developments from china (afaik) so this might actually be free money for the US yk. China really really wants to buy them chips so this might be an ultra rare trump W.

    Edit: Its a revenue share of 15%, 15% of all revenue both companies make from china is given to the US Government. (I do not support trump and I am not american)

  2. If tariffs encourage companies to bring manufacturing back, this does the opposite.

    Why would they manufacture chips in Arizona to be sold to China with a 15% export tax when they can do it as they are now in Taiwan with no export tax?

    It’s just mindless bullshit to obfuscate. Release the files.

  3. I like how how there’s no longer even a pretense of pretending that such and such an emergency gives Trump the power to enact the tariffs and whatever the hell this is. Though, coming up with 200 separate perfunctory emergencies probably would keep him occupied for a while.

  5. Everyone is misunderstanding this announcement. It’s not bearish news for these companies, it’s bullish.

    In fact, the chips discussed in this announcement were specifically designed for sale to China under Biden-area restrictions, but the Trump admin blocked their sale. This new agreement opens up a new market to both chipmakers, provided they ~~pay a kickback~~ sign a profit sharing agreement.

    So while it’s more Trump bullshit, this isn’t a tariff on existing business, it’s a kickback for them expanding into a new market.

  12. This is a tax on the seller/exporter. Not a tariff. A tariff is a tax on the buyer which a country can only importons imports.
