Key crimes down in London

  1. How many crimes aren’t reported because people think the Met will do nothing at all?

    And is shoplifting down, too?

  2. I saw a couple of tiktok videos of crimes, so i don’t believe these statistics.

  3. Is anyone using MET Engage ? I was recently introduced to it, and find it reports close to nothing so far.

  4. I mean there is no point in reporting crimes these days police can’t do shit

  5. These are the Mets own figures. Not the crime survey which I believe is deemed the more reliable.

The Mayor and Met have cherry picked certain stats unsurprisingly and used their own numbers.

  6. In the last few weeks I’ve seen claims that knife crime is both up and down in London, from major news outlets. Which one is it really?

  7. This would completely buck the recent trend and national data that was released a few weeks ago that said:

    – Knife crime up by 9%
    – Over 10,000 robberies in London involved a knife
    – Theft up 28%
    – 53% increase in shoplifting
    – Murder and violence against a person has slightly decreased

    So I’m very, very dubious

Additional source – I knew I’d read the original numbers somewhere – https://www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/london-latest-crime-statistics-knife-murder-shoplifting-sadiq-khan-ons-b1239843.html

  8. These are huge drops, if they’d moved in the other direction it would be on the front pages. Not sure how the LoNdUN hAz FalLen narrative peddlers are going to spin this.

  9. Sadly this won’t make the news because we still need to be angry about the boats the tories invented.

  10. Thank god, now I don’t have to ask for my Blackberry back in a lady’s voice.

  11. **My phone was stolen a few weeks ago by some little scrote on a scooter with balaclava. I didn’t report it because I know the met will do absolutely fuck all. Fuck the Met**

  12. Pull the other one, it’s got bells on it, ready for the Notting Hill Carnival stabfest.

  13. With all the phone thefts I can’t believe theft from a person is down that much.

  14. What changed in just one year to have such a big impact on crime?

  15. There was an article last week in the independent which stated knife crime was up

    https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/london-knife-crime-map-met-police-b2798740.html

    https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/knife-crime-police-forces-data-b2752541.html

“The Metropolitan Police, the country’s largest force, recorded the highest number of knife crime offences last year, 16,789, an increase of 16 per cent from 2023.”

Those are last years figures they’re reporting now, so perhaps there has been some change in Q1 this year, but it’s still a massive number

  16. I like how the comments are now saying that crime has reduced because less people are reporting them. I’m sure a lot of people who get stabbed don’t report it to the police or even ambulance and just go about their day till they bleed out

  17. I have to say I am very skeptical of this bar chart.

I know various people that work in the Met, which is being ripped apart by cuts and further politicised.

How do crime rates drop when a population is growing and the police service is shrinking…?

With more economic pressure on the majority of citizens. I love it to be true…but I don’t understand it.

The metrics do not add up.

  18. Police data on crime is fundamentally flawed. Fewer police with fewer resources leads to fewer crimes reported, whilst more crimes are committed. In fact, the true state of crime is closer being the opposite of what police-collected data will suggest.

City hall is able to cut police and show numbers of police reported crimes going down. Win win if you don’t understand what’s going on in the data or on the street.

The only reliable measurement of crime is the ONS’s Police and Crime survey, where they ask people if they have witnessed/been a victim of crime, rather than relying on police data. And in the year to March ’25 crime went up by 7% (driven mostly be Fraud, way ahead of population growth), but in the categories mentioned above there was not a statistically significant change from the previous year

  19. These stats Vs the unjustified weight I put on my own anecdotal experiences. Who will win out?

  20. People don’t report any more. I’ve lived here for nearly two decades and it definitely feels like things are sliding. Maybe not as dangerous as it used to be, but low level lawlessness has absolutely increased.

  21. London has statistically never been safer but Ant Middleton on tiktok said Londons fallen so I’ll believe him – reform sheep

  22. 80 year old granny terrorist networks have been smashed recently too!

  23. So the Mayor’s office, which has a vested interest in being able to declare that crime is down in London, is reporting that according to their own cherry picked data during the first quarter of this year the selected crimes have been counted as being less than they were during the same period last year. Great! Now let’s see ALL the data, and the methodology used in its analysis. Otherwise this is just another Mayoral sound bite of little significance… But here’s hoping it’s all factual and that every other quarter sees similar drops, across all crime.

  24. Whats that? Phone muggings don’t count as personal robbery?

  25. Not true for knife crime. Many of the major news outlets have recently highlighted it as being the primary crime that’s gone up

  26. I call it BS…. People are disappointed to the police and not reporting crime anymore. At least for stolen phones.

A few times in regent street I saw someone’s phone was stolen and I offered to help them to call police.

Their responses: what are they going to do? Nothing!

    Or don’t waste my time

Or don’t bother bro. They are useless

  27. Met police is an absolute joke anyway I bet loads of people have fallen victim to these crimes and not bothered reporting it because they are aware that the institution is corrupt, immoral and toothless

  28. Ngl it’s to expensive to be outside so good that stuff like is going down

  29. This probably means that the public is loosing faith in Police and reporting crime less and less
