Nah, wear whatever you like, you do you! As long as you’re comfortable. All are welcome
Just… gonnae no.
In what sense?
That looks more plaid than tartan to me, and in any case – I doubt anyone will particularly notice what dress you’re wearing.
Enjoy the trip 🙂
Yes, unless you’re actually a guest star in Outlander. It’ll make you look like a giant twat.
Need to get one of those tam o shanter hats with the ginger wigs attached as well.
This is what one of the 4 corners goths would wear in glasgow
Yeah it’s a bit cringe and a bit cliché, unless your friend is planning on being a character in some sort of historical reenactment.
Also, for what it’s worth, I think the dress itself, with the differing and contrasting tartans, and the way they’ve been laid together, looks *fuckugly*.
Yes. Don’t do it.
I wouldn’t wear this, personally. But do what you want. Depends how confident you feel and how many zero fs you give on what others think. Since you do seem to care about what others think (I mean, you are asking on this forum at least), trust your gut and maybe pick something else if it will make you feel 100 percent confident.
😬 yeh, that’s cringe, please don’t.
I think it’s a cute dress, but others will think it’s too much. I don’t know if they would make the connection to Scotland tbh
If you’re going to a fancy dress party or you’re a waitress at a themed restaurant then yes, it’s fine .
Guessing you’re coming from America ?
Nope, looks dope. Maybe wouldn’t wear it on a day to day basis but would be great for a night out.
Do they have one that’s just uses one fabric? The colours are a bit meh
they don’t mix tartans
Yes it’s cringey, yes it’s cliche, yes you’re gonny freeze to death but also aye wear what you like. Banter like
It looks like one of those off brand Halloween costumes. Like instead of Freddy Krueger costume, it would be called “Dream demon costume.”
This would be called “sexy Scottish lassie costume” or something like that.
Honestly you’d stand out pretty hard in this. Also Edinburgh very often doesn’t have the kind of weather where wearing this would be appropriate. But it’s your trip and money, do whatever you like. It’s not like anyone is gonna give you shit for it but you might get some looks.
Looks more akin to what they wear in bavarian beer halls
Not if you’re going to be highland dancing. Otherwise, very much so.
You will look like an ‘American Tourist with Scottish Heritage’ but go for it.
Is this a costume or just regular dress? If the latter than the issue isn’t cliche, it’s taste.
I don’t really mind at all, but I do think it’s weird that some people want to dress up in a badly-appropriated costume when they visit Scotland.
As someone who wears a lot of alt clothing (which I’m aware that dress isn’t, but it will still stand out a lot compared to what everyone else is wearing) it really depends on where you are going. People in Edinburgh or Glasgow won’t care, you might get the odd ned or creepy old dude making a comment but 99% of people won’t even look at you twice. If you are going somewhere that’s not one of the bigger cities be prepared for a few older people to stare and maybe a tut or two but again overly you’ll be fine.
Basically if you’re confident enough to wear it you’ll be absolutely fine. Fair warning though it might be a bit cold.
You don’t need to dress in tartan when you’re in Scotland, the same way you don’t need to wear lederhosen to visit Germany!
It’s pretty but nothing to do with Scotland, so go for it if you like it but don’t go thinking that it will have any meaning here.
No one will really care, but everyone will know you are a tourist, unless you are doing something that would warrant this dress (formal dancing or a burns supper..
You might get some snickers behind you, but generally we are a tolerant bunch, used to the madness some tourists attach to Scotland.
I’d just roll my eyes and keep going…while you’re furiously taking selfies of yourself. 🙄
I’d think you were trying too hard tbh
What a young man wishes to wear in Scotland is surely entirely up to him
Only if you insist that each of the tartan represent a clan of your family’s and that you’re Scottish royalty.
If you’re going on a night out and not American then yes this would be ok.
The reason I mention Americans is because sorry but you’d be fitting the huge stereotype of being on some heritage trip to find your ancestry and it seems to *really* rub some folk the wrong way.
Don’t wear it to visit the famous sights, such as the Asda in Baillieston.

That is honestly awful.
