Bowen: Israeli settlers intensify campaign to drive out West Bank Palestinians

1. Since October 2023, Israel has cranked up pressure on West Bank Palestinians, calling it “security” while pushing to grab more land and bury hopes for a Palestinian state. Rights groups say security forces do not protect Palestinians and sometimes join settlers in attacking them. The UN reports about four settler attacks a day, with intimidation, beatings, land grabs, wrecked livelihoods, and families forced out. Settlers are now part of the military, so when they tell a Palestinian to leave or be shot, there is no one left to protect them.

2. A few years ago, Chomsky spoke about the false premise behind the idea that there are two solutions to the conflict—the one state and two state solutions. He said there is a third “solution” that was not discussed as seriously and honestly as it should. It’s what Israel is doing right now. They will progressively take all the land, deny statehood, and the Palestinians can either leave or live like dogs for all they care. That has been the only “solution” Israel has earnestly attempted since the occupation began.
