Awesome moment of history caught in picture. Quality
If you ever get the chance to watch it, there’s a one man play called Tom Crean: Antarctic Explorer, it’s excellent
So if the photo was taken during the Endurance Expedition, you probably don’t want to google what happened to the puppers.
Those are some chunky puppies, I love them.
But did he eat them?

yeah. Puppies/dogs were sent to the antarctic, but rarely made it back.
Pack animals and Protein combined
Swore there was only the one photo of him. I was at a house or shop or something dedicated to him in cork and they only had the one portrait shot plastered about a hundred times
Why take puppies with them?
One of the crew of Endurance? I read the book a year ago and the name, dogs and year all look too familiar
I’ve come to the conclusion Irish people never go bald
A living, breathing dad-didn’t-want-a-dog meme before they were a thing.
Could almost envision an older and more weathered Daniel Craig portraying him in the one man play, Tom Crean: Antarctic Explorer, perhaps a biopic. He certainly had an interesting life.

And appropriately, a new Irish marine research vessel is to be [named](https://afloat.ie/marine-environment/marine-science/rv-tom-crean/item/49203-rv-tom-crean) after him.
He was 19 at the time…..

Wear your sunscreen.
It’s rare to see him in pictures without the pipe in his mouth.
Went over to Oslo a few years to the Fram museum and spotted him in a group photo, clear as day with the pipe in his mouth!

There’s a book about him called “An Unsung Hero”. It’s a good read.
Edit: Just saw somebody else mentioned it too.
Big Irish head on him, alright

The most unappreciated hero of the arctic expedition.

Leathery Daniel Craig, or man who beat Trump in a tanning bed contest?

A hardy houer. Perhaps the original.
Easily one of the toughest Irishmen to have ever lived

I wonder what pipe tobacco blend he smoked.
