Tougher consequences needed for teens involved in crime, says Tanaiste, as India Day postponed due to ‘spate of attacks’

  1. Love how it takes a series of video taped racist attacks and damage to our international reputation for anything to be done, when anti social behaviour and random assaults have been affecting people for a very long time already.

  2. Tougher consequences are needed for crime across the board quite frankly

  3. The government: “Oh Dear oh Dear, how shocking. Someone really ought to do something about this.”

  4. Can’t get much tougher than a suspended sentence. Not sure what else we can do 🤔

  5. It’s a shame that Simon has very little power to actually fucking do anything.

  6. Its annoying that FG have been in Government for so long yet speak like they are in opposition

  7. If only he had some position of influence that he could do something about it

  8. I’m thankful to the Indian community in Ireland for having the courage speak out against the anti social behaviour caused by teenagers because the government only listens when it damages the international reputation of Ireland

  9. Send them little cunts to work really tough jobs for no payment, keep the money they would have earned to accommodate them and feed them while they’re serving their sentences.

  10. Bring back Helen mcentee, there was none of this sxit and zero crime when she was in charge /s

  11. Why has it taken until now for anything to be said?
This shit has been happening for a long time.

  12. Absolutely nothing is going to be done about this. Water under a bridge

  13. Waiting for them to commit crime is the wrong idea …

We need Compulsory Military Service (if you’re not fully engaged in some formal education or training, up to a certain standard, no attendance issues, and no criminal record).

Then send troublesome conscripts to Uganda, let them spend a year or two digging latrines for Ebola quarantines. Incentivise them to be decent human beings in order to get assigned to less awful assignments.

    That’ll soften their cough.

  14. Every year when the kids are off school for summer anti social stuff sky rockets. Been happening for years.

The kids know they’re untouchable and something needs to change. Difficult manual community service labour should be brought in. The more unappealing the better….like sending them to the sewage plant to shovel shit.

Either that or let the Garda give them a good heavy slap when they’re acting out and make examples of them in front of their peers.

0 consequences means 0 regard for others.

On the other hand, when they all go back to school in 2 weeks everything will calm down again and it’ll be all forgotten about until next summer, when we can all be in all so much shock again

  15. One thing I’ve noticed in my 27 years of living in Ireland is that Irish governments react really fast to bad international press. One way to get governments to do their job is to engage with immigrants and encourage them to get international press for problems here.

  16. What exactly can be done that the government will invest in? I’ve been around town a few times and there’s a breed of those young lads that no amount of attending youth clubs is going to fix. As controversial as it sounds knowing they’d be getting a smack off a guard if they got caught for something would help alot but then you’ll have 1 guard go too far and you’ll have a scandal(the actual reason why they’re not allowed anymore imo).

  17. Simon Harris is so late to this it’s embarrassing. This was needed years ago. Typical FFG.

Sure what was Helen McEntee doing to ensure tougher stances for them? Walking around Dublin with her personal bodyguards to gaslight people into saying no it is safe?

    Idiot.

  18. If only he was in charge before jow, he could have done something about it…

  19. Saying tge right things, but doing nothing about it as usual

  20. Send them where? For under 18s and adults there are no prison spaces to accommodate tougher sentences.

    Pure lip service.

  21. Teens seem to genuinely not even be afraid of getting caught. My car was robbed from outside my house and the gardai knew it was a certain group of teens but they literally said there was no point getting them as they will just go back to their mammy! I was so shocked and upset with that so just leave them to it like , it’s crazy sure why would they stop then?

  22. This thread is a perfect example of how FF/FG stays in power. Harris or Martin can say something, and people believe things will change when the reality is nothing will.

Meanwhile, housing, health, and education systems continue to suffer from under investment, and we all stay distracted.
