103 years ago, Poland regained its sovereignty

  1. Today we celebrate the independence of our country and our most important national holiday. Return of Poland to the map of Europe after 123 years of partitions.

But European media will still write, as they do every year, that it is a march of fascists.

  2. On this day in 1918, after his release from the Magdeburg Fortress, Józef Piłsudski took over military command from the Regency Council and, three days later, assumed supreme authority over civilian matters, to, “as Commander-in-Chief of the Polish Army […] notify belligerent and neutral governments and nations” of the reappearance of “the reborn and independent Republic of Poland” on the map. After 123 years of captivity, Poland became a sovereign and internationally recognized state.

Five generations had fought in uprisings, cherished the Polish spirit and resisted Germanisation and Russification so that, in November 1918, Poles could taste freedom at last. Józef Piłsudski, Roman Dmowski, Ignacy Jan Paderewski, Gen. Józef Haller, Ignacy Daszyński, Wincenty Witos, and Wojciech Korfanty were the founding fathers of Independent Poland. The statesmen came from diverse political backgrounds, but in 1918 had a shared goal of rebuilding Polish statehood.

  3. It is a testament to the deep love of country that Poles had ….to retain the culture and language when oppressed for so many years. My mother spoke with deep pride how she and other children planted tree seeds…. for the betterment of their country. After WWII she was a DP- refugee— longed to return to Poland- but unable due to the communist regime.

In 1972…when she got to visit Poland , she brought back a handful of soil which, tearfully, she placed in her garden….

The post WWII Poles I knew in my community were the most patriotic, honourable people I had met when growin up.

  4. All I associate with this day now is the fascist march full of bald bydło that ruins my home city, year after year. Considering also the awful internal situation in Poland, it’s probably the closest I ever got in my life to feeling full blown oikophobic. I plan to stay at home for the whole day to spare myself the nerves, I aleady prepared some books and video games to tide me over, I will also log off all social media for a day. See you all on the 12.11.

  5. Let’s be real, most of modern Poland belongs to Germany

The Teutonic Knights and subsequently Prussia held that territory since the 1100’s which is since Mongol times.

It would be like if Japan had to cede Kyushu to China or Korea following WW2 when Japan held that territory since the first Shogunate, the Kamakura Shogunate, also established in the 1100’s-1200’s.

  6. Today I celebrate for our wonderful neighbors to the West! May you prosper and be blessed! Love from belarus<3🇧🇾

  7. Congratulations Polacks! You truly deserve your independence after so much resistance and fighting for it.

I hope one day there will be a peace between us

  8. Poland is still not yet lost, even if the horde is banging on their borders.

    You guys are great.

    Happy independence day.

  9. Happy independence day, dear Poland!

Simple belarusians still remember very well that throughout the history we were friends and allies.
    And not artificially created enemies.

Fuck Lukashenka and Putin. I’m tired to be their pawn.

  10. Yep, that just may have been a bad mistake. Can we somehow just donate Poland back to Poetin as a friendly gesture? A xenophobic, antisemitic, anti-human-rights, nationalistic, grotesquely catholic, anti-abortion, gay-phobic country like Poland should be very attractive to Russia and Belorus in a federation of like-minded twisted societies…

  11. What a tragedy. To think I could’ve been born in Germany or Austria instead of this craphole of a country

  12. Congratulations from Ukraine! Despite our long and sometimes tragic history together, nowadays we’re firm allies. Congratulations once again.
