Two bulk carriers to be bought from the US

The Advisory Council Committee on Government Procurement has approved the purchase of two cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the spot market at a total cost of Tk987.33 crore.
The LNG will be supplied by M/S Aramco Trading Singapore Pte Ltd and PetroChina International (Singapore) Pte Ltd.
The approval was given during a meeting of the committee held today (12 August) in the Cabinet Division, chaired by Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed.
According to sources from the meeting, the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources proposed the purchase, which is being made through an international quotation process following the ‘Public Procurement Rules, 2008.’
Petrobangla, which has agreements with 23 international LNG suppliers, invited tenders and received bids from six suppliers for one tender and three suppliers for another.
M/S Aramco Trading Singapore Pte Ltd will supply LNG for USD11.97 per unit. One cargo, containing 33.6 lakh MMBtu (Metric Million British Thermal Units), will cost Tk502.95 crore and is expected to arrive in September.
PetroChina International (Singapore) Pte Ltd will supply LNG at USD11.90 per unit. One cargo of the same quantity will cost Tk484.38 crore and is expected to arrive in October.
In addition, the committee approved the Ministry of Shipping’s proposal to purchase two bulk carrier ships for Bangladesh Shipping Corporation from the United States. The ships will be bought from Hellenic Dry Bulk Ventures LLC for Tk936 crore.
