Casinos Austria International has appointed Per Jaldung as its new managing director, a position responsible for overseeing the company’s casino operations across multiple countries and pursuing opportunities in the international gaming market.

“I am truly proud and excited to take on the challenge as Managing Director of Casinos Austria International. It’s interesting to work from our headquarters in Vienna, a city rich in history and full of opportunities,” Jaldung said.

“I really look forward to collaborating with the team to strengthen our existing businesses across our countries and to explore new opportunities for the company in the international gaming market.”

The appointment will not affect his position as CEO of Grand Casino Brussels @Viage, which he has held since December 2023.

“At the same time, I will continue as CEO of Grand Casino Brussels @Viage, a responsibility I can balance thanks to a talented and dedicated local team there,” Jaldung said.

Career and industry involvement

Jaldung has more than three decades of experience in law enforcement and the casino sector. He began his career as a police officer in Stockholm in 1991, later serving in Sweden’s National Criminal Investigation Department before joining Casino Cosmopol in 2002 as security manager. He advanced to general manager in 2005 and CEO in 2008, a role he held until March 2023.

In addition to his operational leadership roles, Jaldung served as chairman of the board of the European Casino Association from 2015 to 2023 and became its honorary president in February 2023. He has also been a member of the supervisory board of Almega Tjansterforbunden and held various positions focused on security and compliance.

Views on security and operations

In an interview with Gambling Insider, Jaldung described his early career challenges, noting the need for around-the-clock oversight in the initial stages of casino operations. “I remember working 24 hours a day for weeks at the beginning. Of course, we had incidents. We had some cheating, some fraud. But you gain experience dealing with such threats,” he said.

He credited Holland Casino for providing significant operational and security training when Casino Cosmopol was launched in Sweden, saying the company sent about 100 trainers to assist in establishing both gaming and security procedures.

Jaldung was named CEO of the Year at the 2021 Global Gaming Awards in London. His appointment follows Casinos Austria’s recruitment of Erwin van Laambart from Holland Casino to serve as general director in 2022.
