Why are we giving non UK nationals benefits in the first place? Because in any other country, you lose your job you’ve lost your visa and you’re kicked out.
2021 census says there’s 4.1 million EU citizens with settled status in the UK resulting in an unemployment rate of around 19% for this grouping.
Misleading headline, as it equates ‘Universal Credit’ with being unemployed.
Those are not the same. Two thirds of people claiming universal credit are actually in work.
Of course it had to be GB News.
Universal Credit doesn’t necessarily mean unemployed.
No one bar an actual citizen should have access to UC. In any other country if you can’t pay for yourself, you’re out.
My wife’s from Africa. Came here the right way, paid the extortionate uni prices, waited in the (very long) queue and got residency. In the wider African community she’s part of she often comments to me how the government is seen as a joke and the system is not to be listened to but to be gamed. It infuriates her as someone who did it the right way and its quite funny to see her go off on illegal immigrants to the white leftists as they can’t throw back the usual ‘you’re just racist’ to her. Really exposes their lack of ability to defend their position.
New batch of GBeebies slop has been served, have at it reformorons
The vast majority of these are EU citizens settled here before Brexit where their rights were expressly maintained, as were the rights of Brits living in the EU
More propaganda from yet another opaque dark money Tufton Street ‘think tank’, yay.

Why is this supposed to be news?
There are around 8 million people in the UK who claim universal credit, 1.3 million of which are not British citizens.
16% of the UK population are non-UK nationals, so this number is to be expected
This constant anti-immigrant rhetoric needs to stop, it does not help anyone except Reform Uk who want to win the next election using hate, fear and division.
The bigger problem is the job market and the fact that so many are claiming benefits, regardless of nationality
The usual rage bait headlines getting the pensioners all riled up.
This country is so going to vote for that farage muppet.
These are two separate things. One can be employed and receive universal credit – or unemployed and not claim universal credit.
Unlike UK citizens, many foreign nationals can only claim universal credit if they’re *in work*
I think it’s clear from the comments here that firstly a lot of you haven’t read the article and secondly have a poor understanding of how visas work.
Fucking hell GBnews guys. We’ve fallen pretty far in the last year. They’re not even a news source by their own definition.
so 16% of the 8 million on uc are foreign. i personally dont care what nationality. what matters more is whether they have worked, paid their taxes, and been honest, law-abiding and productive individuals.
plenty of our native populace on UC dont do any of those things.
Gbnews dot com
Okay imma start linking morning star online then if you all going try these bait articles
I can imagine this is a well vetted and robust statistic with no way that the title is misleading in any way…
Why in the ever-loving-fuck is GB News even allowed to be posted here. Like seriously. It’s bad enough that the Daily Mail and Telegraph are permitted, but, at the very least, they pretend to be factual sources of information. GB News is just an organisation of straight-up bullshit merchants, and that’s not uncommon knowledge. This headline, for example, is just a complete and utter lie. Not a half-truth, not a twisting of words, just an actual, outright lie. Why is this allowed?
1.3m is still way too many. I have lived abroad before and if you dont have the means to support yourself you are out – no questions asked. This is nonsense, no serious country would ever let itself get to this point.
If you are from another country and cannot sustain yourself – you should return to your home country.
I dont understand what the fk this is supposed to mean. Im a foreign student but under no terms and circumstances can i receive or have received a single fucking penny from the government.
What does that mean? What does non-uk mean? Do the first generation british also fall into it, what about second or third generations? What foreigners? What does a foreigner mean?
I think about this but an ol tommy at spoons on benefits looking snarky at me wont think about this like that.
This is the type of rhetoric that sheds negative light onto us. The type of headline that the anti-immigration protestors take one glance, feed their foreign hate sentiment and once again we become the problem.
Click bait. Unless you have IRL you do not have access to public funds.
Haha 1.3million foreigners on UC, but when I needed it they made my life hell so I gave up (Probably the idea).
This country is honestly fucked. It will soon be a shell country. I mean it basically already is. All work is outsourced, we have a few fat cats. Standard of living is shite, wages are shit, no housing, no infrastructure. Everything has red tape around it, we have no control over our borders. There’s an insane amount of infighting and we’re more divided than ever.
We’re needing to dig super dams as rainfall lowers and temperatures rise… And the population goes out of control through the rise of population due to migrant families.
Why are people upvoting garbage from the hard-Right GBNews?
The only non UK nationals who can claim benefits are those with indefinite leave to remain, which means they are entitled to stay in the UK. Visa holders / asylum seekers can’t claim benefits.
Why is it when something like this is posted, the left work vigorously in order to either a) incorrectly say the statement is false (it’s actually not), or, b) try to portray it as a good thing and then in their next breath, start claiming we should tax the wealthy because the country is broke?!
If you’re aware the country is in financial crisis, why would you want to see money spent on an ever increasing number of dependent non-nationals?! Literally makes no sense.
Is it more important for someone from the left to simply get their own way or be seen as being the righteous and/or one of the ‘good guys’, than it is to simply apply some common sense?
And before anyone starts to claim I’m a Farage supporter, I’m not! I simply can see what is happening before my own eyes.
A wealth tax based around assets may be a good way to go, but it never worked in France or Scandinavia and in fact cost almost as much to administer as it actually generated.
I’m not even gonna check.
Can we stop with the “record number” ?
EVERYTHING related to population is always “record number”. Bigger population = record number
It’s bizarre how eager people are to demonize poor folk rather than face the fact that they’re being robbed, day in day out, by crazy-rich assholes who would happily work us all to death to buy a bigger yacht.
I guess it’s easier to punch down.
This is bullshit. I’ve lived in the UK for almost 9 years on a visa, first as a student, then as a worker. The first thing you noticed in my BRP were huge bold letter stating I do not qualify for ANY benefits.
Another ragebait anti immigration sentiment stirring article for the hungry brits. They eating well
Is there any country I could go and claim benefits (preferably warm) ?
Considering the other article posted here with job vacancies dropping, you’d kinda expect this to happen.
Also without defining what a ‘foreigner” is and what the benefits are.
iirc, EU citizens can collect. benefits based on the settlement agreement.
People on indefinite leave to remain can collect some benefits but idlr is nearly citizenship anyway so why should they not be able to collect at least some benefits?
I’m going to go out on a limb and say that particular ‘news’ site doesn’t give any detail to explain who is collecting and what they’re collecting.
What’s with all these xenophobic, racist headlines r/unitedkingdom has been pumping out??
Absolutely codswallop. I process UC. Claimants have to have leave to remain and do not automatically have access to benefits, no matter what frog face Farage tries to tell you.
