Considering the UK consistently had widespread covid I’m really not sure what the point of this was?
Was it just safety theatre like so many other actions?
My spouse stayed in one at a charge of almost 2k. How in earth did they lose money charging 200 a night for crap food, a basic room and a few security guards?
lets get back to the tories spaffing billions on empty contacts for friends first.
Who owns the hotels?
I don’t care if we spend money on worthwhile things. I care if we spend them on seemingly worthwhile things owned by friends of the government.
Given the the strength of governmental opposition to all this, I’m starting to wonder just how many Tory MP’s have an investment in accommodation providers.
400m for the tory government is nothing unless its a benefit for those not doing so well in our country
so is this, shock, horror, COVID has cost us a lot of money again? What else would people expect?
Genuine question as I didn’t follow most of this (turned the TV off for most of covid) was this considered a good idea at the time? I’m guessing we expect the people “required” to use these hotels on arrival to pay?
I’m very happy to pay taxes if it means that COVID positive people are quarantined.
Not mad about this one for even a second, and I don’t see how the cost would come as a shock to anyone.

Damn, if only Sunak didn’t write off (to the best of my recollection) over almost 2 billion in covid related fraud because some of the companies were Tory donors.

I had to pay £1700 for 10 days after I had to go abroad due to a family emergency. How the hell did they make a loss? Just corruption all around!!
That means each taxpayer paid £12.43 if the £400m is the real total cost.
Needs to be a watchdog on how much taxpayers money was wasted over covid, £100m on unpaid rooms, millions more on unuseable PPE and the failure that is track and trace app. We deserve to know how much was lost and why those people were given those contracts.
Hotel owners seem to be the new landlords, enjoying a good old feed at the taxpayers teat for housing covid quarantines and asylum seekers.
I like to know how many of the cabinet ministers have benefitted from this scheme directly or indirectly or through third party???

You are right, some people did benefit from it. Mostly grutty, dirty, unhygienic and poor standard hotels and the Cabinet ministers.
