Compared to his net worth, forgoing the presidential salary is quite literally akin to me, a public school teacher, saying no to an additional forty dollars a year. Which, come to think of it, I never did submit my time sheet to be reimbursed for the two hours spent chaperoning last spring’s 4th grade band concert. Damn.
How many billionaires do you know that have made their money through a monthly salary? Literally zero. He has *assets* and access to numerous economic levers. He can make millions of dollars in an afternoon by tweaking the economy to inflate his assets. Heck, he fucking tweets something and the stock market moves. That’s on top of the things he’s been doing recently, which is to file a lawsuit he has no chance of winning, only for the target to sue for peace and pay him off, afraid he’ll bring to bear some power of the federal government (example CBS merge).

A very smart young man I greatly admire literally told me that his father was only going to vote for Trump again in 2024 because Trump didn’t enrich himself while he was in office. I did the hardest double take of my life. The kid didn’t seem to know at all.
