BEAUMONT — As Beaumont ISD students return to school, they will receive an important lesson on the ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI). The district has implemented a policy that begins with a video produced and narrated by Jackie Simien, the district’s director of community and media relations. The video emphasizes the appropriate use of AI in education.
“AI should be used to assist with learning, not to do the learning for you,” the video states, underscoring the importance of using AI as a tool rather than a shortcut. The district warns students against using AI to cheat, noting that academic dishonesty involving AI will result in consequences such as grade penalties and potential suspension.
The video also advises students to verify the accuracy of AI-generated information. “Always check for accuracy, AI can make mistakes or be biased,” it cautions.
To reinforce these guidelines, the district has created stickers to be displayed throughout campuses, reminding students of the consequences of academic dishonesty involving AI.
Administrators are also advising teachers to take proactive measures to protect student privacy and data security when using AI tools. They are encouraged to review district-approved platforms and ensure compliance with privacy laws before integrating AI into the classroom.
