> Pressed on whether England should follow suit, Zahawi told Times Radio: “My very strong view is that **actually we have got to trust parents on this** and parents being able to discipline their children is something that they should be entitled to do.
I fully oppose the idea of smacking children… but making it illegal won’t really protect children that are at real risk. Those sick individuals who regularly hit their kids will not be deterred by this.
Instead it will likely put kids at increased risk as some resources will have to be diverted to check/prosecute good parents who may use this as last resort to educate their kids.
More legislation does not equal more protection.
Can we start a petition for his parents to smack him for being a horrible human being?
Not really surprised by this. England does seem to be getting more and more regressive by the day, so why would they go and do something morally right and progressive.
Not taking a side on this one…
Don’t think kids currently get punished properly.
Take a look at schools / teachers.
Absolutely shocking behaviour and it seems this has stemmed from a more “progressive” view on hands off parenting… I got smacked. I think it helped me tbh. Kids can be cunts.

>“We have got to just make sure we don’t end up in a world where the state is nannying people about how they bring up their children.”
My very strong view is that actually we have got to trust **people** on this and **people** being able to **settle their disputes physically** is something that they should be entitled to do.
We have got to just make sure we don’t end up in a world where the state is nannying people about how they **settle their disputes**.”
Same logic applied to adults hitting adults. Fair?
Translation: Zahawi supports child abuse because he’s a massive bellend
This person obviously turn a blind eye on the types of personality disorders that can cause long term harm to family members. I always think there will never be a perfect legal system that can prevent POSs doing harm to their kids on either physical and emotional levels behind closed doors. But at least acknowledge these people have always existed. They obviously do it because they have emotional issues that always overrides logical thinking?
There should be a ban on smacking your own children, but gobby little shites in the street should be fair game
We have to trust parents who beat their children.
WTF?

These types of grey area rules are going to chip away at our freedoms till there is nothing left. A parent can’t even give their misbehaving child a little tap without risking prison time now. How is this reasonable? Obviously there is a limit to what is acceptable, but grey areas are important and having every single little aspect of life governed by actual punishable law is not the haven law makers seem to think it is.
They won’t ban it in case some wiley lawyer claims getting buggered senseless by the Head Boy at Eton constituents a right royal smacking- half the cabinet would be locked up

Why do people find it difficult to see the difference between smacking and abuse 😐
It’s the most bizarre thing that I can pretty much think of: spit at adult – assault, but hit hit child… legal?
How else would he get away with physically assaulting Aladdin 🐍
“It’s totally fine to physically assault someone as long as they are a child that you happen to be the parent of.”
Fucking despicable.
But we send them to prison if they use a belt to flog them with?
Well if he doesn’t want to ban it then my advice to kids out there is if your parent hits you, hit them back, its self defence 100% legal to do.
“I was smacked as a kid, and never did me any harm”
“Except it made you think it was acceptable to hit children”
