1. I have a lot of problems with China, but it’s just about the only country that is actually meeting the moment when it comes to the climate crisis. Not perfectly, naturally, but even with the anticipated massive increase in energy required by AI they’re still projected to easily meet that demand while the US et al have had to pause and cancel project for lack of necessary energy supply.

4. Looks like China has the will and the means to become a CO2 free society. And not even now but for future technology too. They are planning to build in space AI datacenters and the US to rob the population of drinking water to cool their own AI datacenters. In space those data centers will have solar energy for free and cooling at 0 Kelvin. China outsmarts the rest of the world, and US will still manage to destroy the planet by ignorance and stupidity.

5. I doubt China is doing this for altruistic reasons. They know that their options for oil during a war are limited. If they can decarbonize that eliminates on Achilles heel and if their chief projected adversary wants to stay dependent on Oil so much the better.
