A serious accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon in Mödling, Lower Austria, during work on a gas pipeline. A spokesperson for the provincial police directorate confirmed to Der Standard that an explosion may have taken place, causing two workers to lose consciousness and a large rescue operation in the region.
One man died at the scene. A second worker was flown to the hospital with severe injuries. Both were reportedly employed by Wien Energie.
The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
