£72,000 for a watch? wtf.
I know that East London’s been gentrified. But not so much as I’d carry that much value on me..
A man who hits people for a living is able to afford a £72,000 watch. A man who saves lives for a living can’t even afford to pay his energy bills.
> ‘I’m thinking: “I’ve not got a watch on me now, God forbid someone comes at me in the alleyways.”
If I was walking anywhere with [this watch](https://i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2022/04/22/09/56916831-10742485-image-a-20_1650616128756.jpg) I’d be constantly worried about thieves and rogue magpies.
Hold a famous boxer up at gunpoint to steal a custom made watch that is quickly recognisable.
Obvious the gang is a professional crew as it was a targeted theft, but, fuck stupid…
…(*on every level*).
Not to downplay his robbery as I have sympathy for him obviously but someone being able to afford a watch that costs 72K is just fucking madness.
It would take most people about 3 or 4 years working full time on a minimum wage job to afford that!
Khan does loads of charity stuff. How can he justify that alongside having a watch?! Makes me think the fact he tweets out all his charity work is just for good PR
I’m sure there will be plenty of comments about how someone shouldn’t even be able to afford a £72,000 watch.
The irony of this is, of course, that boxing is the sport in which athletes have the most amount of rights to their earnings. Promoters can’t take more than a certain percentage. Boxers can refuse fights they don’t want to take, for tonnes of reasons.
The fighters get GUARANTEED percentages of gates and PPVs, with MINIMUMS in case they don’t sell as well as expected. You can’t contract lock them in the same way other athletes can be contract locked, either.
They have the shortest athletic careers, with the highest risk, with almost all of them suffering long term health detriment.
On top of that, despite the memes, Khan is one of the top 1% of 1% of boxers.
Hate to victim blame but if I walked around with a £72k watch I would expect to get mugged
Perhaps those who can’t feed their families or heat their homes can have a whip-round?
£72k!?! I mean for FFS. This is a bloke who punches other blokes for a living, not some millionaire business owner who at least does some good by employing hundreds of people.
Perhaps if the rich start feeling this sort of pain they’ll pressure the government to do better? If the rich don’t feel safe maybe we’ll get more police again and actually tackle crime.
Imagine if they can’t shake their jewellery to cheer each other on. The horror.
>it is now ‘too unsafe’ to walk the streets of London
Its probably ‘too unsafe’ to brag about how much your watch cost to millions of random people on the internet then tell them you are wearing it and where you will be for the next hour or so. At the very least you should have some security with you.
For the rest of us its perfectly safe.
This just goes to show that you can be shit at something and still make a lot of money and be well paid, just like my bosses….
so the dailymail does an article that basically has the message of ‘be afraid, you could get mugged at any time’
what are they adding to the conversation with this?
they make money, which is nice for them, but the general message they promote is negative and has a negative effect on almost everything except their profit margin. This isn’t a helpful addition to the conversation, this is just scare mongering
you’re more likely to come away from this hating the man on the street, not the politicians who mismanage the money that create situations where people feel the need to have to join gangs and participate in crimes like this.
Also, why does the amount the watch cost matter in the first place? a mugging is a mugging is it not?
isnt the take away that people are still stuck in a situation where they need to rob people? not, ‘silly prick for wearing an expensive watch’

The dailymail has an incentive to keep stuff like this happening so they have stories to write about, they dont actually want these situations to stop, its built into the business model.

please stop giving these newspapers the time of day, they aren’t helping anything

and posts like this just further spread this, please consider this before posting from sites like this in the future.
you’re not actually helping
To badly misquote Pratchett,
>If you can afford to spend 72k on a watch, you can afford someone to mind you while you wander around with it.
At least the 72k watch has to a good cause then.
Better in the hands of the poor than the wrist of the rich. Do more I say.
Leyton is pretty rough, I’m guessing he has family or mates there cos why on Earth would he be walking around there lol
