Is the BBC Weather app broken? It’s absolutely pouring down here in Colliers Wood with huge thunder and lightning 😯

  1. Looks like you got that 10% chance of rain, unlucky!

  2. Yep same here in wandsworth. Weather apps are never 100% accurate

  3. A lot of these weather apps use old data, so they can’t be that accurate. My friend works for a company that does this but for airlines. Their data is much more accurate but can only be stored for four hours (or something like that). Like their model can only look back for hours

  4. Same where I am, despite promises of sunshine. Im gonna stop using them for weather forecasts now, its been awful for a while.

  5. I was thinking the same. Checked my phone and no sign of lighting but rain due around 4.. but lovely dark cloud overhead and the rain has started.. I can hear the thunder in the distance and see the planes for heathrow are all in holding patterns

  6. Intense storms can be v hard to predict as they’re quire small – you can have torrential rain in one place and be bone dry a mile away. But that seems spectacularly wrong – its been overcast all day, for a start, which is far more predictable.

  7. It’s crap. Raining in City of London, yet showing sunshine all day.

  8. I always found the weather app from Apple to be reasonably accurate and change quickly.

  9. Hey, that’s where I am! Shoutout to the Collywood massive

  10. It says 10% chance of rain. You just got lucky and were in that 10%.

  11. The only one I find vaguely reliable is Met office.

    I like the map thing.

  12. BBC weather has had a shocker for me today. AccuWeather got it right all day

BBC had Sunshine all day. Literally had fog and only a tiny bit of sunshine all day

  13. Just had a massive downpour in Hampshire with thunder…weather app says 0% rain ha.

  14. Yep it’s forecasting has been a bit ‘fishy’ for a while now.

  15. BBC weather went crap when they switched to lower bidder. They’re moving back to Met Office, which had 50% chance of rain in south London (and shows the band moving through on its map). It didn’t mention thunder though

  16. Nothing here in Woolwich but ominous rumbles of thunder and an ice cream van fleeing the scene – just got sent a video of it chucking it down in Bow

  17. Thank you! The weather predictions from the BBC Weather App has been absolute gash lately. I check and it was all sunny.

I received a separate alert which stated Thunderstorms likely in an hour. I’ll be using this as my default going forward.

  18. In the south east, the whole day has been overcast, little rain, and low 20’s. App says bright sunny day, high 20s lol.

  19. I’m in Poole and apparently I’m basking in bright sunshine. I’m not.

  20. Feels so good after all the heat.

  21. if you’ve got an Apple Device, Apple Weather is fairly accurate, currently showing the thunderstorms as it happens 🙂

  22. Yeah, I got the “Rain in 20 minutes” warning after it had already been raining for 30.

  23. The only weather app that used to he good was called “dark skies” – was a “hyper-local” weather app that tracked rain storms incredibly accurately.. apple bought it, absorbed it into their app and murdered it! And no one even talks about it!
