Good at least someone realises that continuing to burn fossil fuels not only doesn’t help climate but also facilitates authoritarian asshats like Putin
Excellent. More!
Good.
I always think that, if there’s a nuclear disaster, it will probably only affect an are around it, menahwile burning fossil fuel affects the entire planet.
Yes! Fidget spinner factories FTW!
Nice. Lets all make the change for mother nature🌍
Viva la France!
I’m not against nuclear energy, but it’s a bit disingenuous to sell it as a way to meet our climate goals. I’m fine with discussing how nuclear fits in our energy consumption in 2050, but it’s not the energy source that is going to get us there. France is in a great spot because they build their reactors at a time that they are ready now that we need them. But if they want to build new ones, they’ll face the same challenges as the rest of Europe: they take a long time to build, are really expensive and can’t easily be upscaled. Nuclear power is safe because its safety is taken seriously. You can’t make a rush job of it and you can’t cut corners. The bigger the project, the more complex they become.
I for one, am enjoying my nuclear powered electricity.
☢️ good ☢️
How many new ones and how quickly do they need to be built to maintain the current makeup?
Nuclear has made France is the king (or President since they are a republic) of carbon free energy. They are showing everybody else the what the future looks like.
The only disappointing news about this is the time-line. Best case scenario is the first EPR 2 reactors will be online in 2035 (most likely 2040) according to national agencies and the government. It’s pretty late and will not help in this decade and most of the next one.
I wish we reinvested in nuclear after Germany’s failed transition
Hopefully not with European Money. I REALLY don’t want any more nuclear reactors around here, especially when renewables are dirt cheap as hell. Just look at the UK. So if france chooses to do that, good for them, let them.
Ah, yes, more nuclear energy for Belgium to buy after we shut down our nuclear reactors, with no cleaner/more efficient method of producing energy to replace them
I’m wondering if they’ve found a way to not have massive cost overruns and delays yet
EPRs are notorious for massive delays and cost overruns, and the EPR-2 design is only on paper.
So it sounds good, but don’t hold your breath.
👏👏👏👏
Best decision the French have made in years
I’m so glad that at least our neighbors remain sensible.
Nuclear energy has always been the cleanest energy.

If you say so
