"The budget proposal for Finland's 2026 fiscal year suggests one billion euros in cuts — including abolishing Finland's national education agency, eliminating integration funding, and ending Finland's refugee quota programme alongside a significant increase in defence spending.

According to reports, Prime Minister Petteri Orpo (NCP) said Purra's proposal did not go over well with other government parties, prompting him to appoint a working group to seek adjustments."

Hopefully, some sanity will prevail in the final budget proposal.

  2. The monopoly of transportation of electricity is so abhorrent. If it was country wide and state owned and run as a service on close to zero profit margin (taking in needs for future investment and renewal cost etc) or clearly earmarked earnings (funding other infrastructure if earnings exceed maintenance costs) this monopoly would be tolerable. I pay about 11 cents per kWh and still have flickering lights from time to time and rare black outs, and when they hike the prices I have zero options.

  3. I guess no matter where you go, every western country is suffering the same political decision driven downfall. Finland just seems to be in the earlier stages, unlike the UK where I’m from where it’s too far gone to be saved without bloodshed most likely.

    Hopefully you can pull back and install some politicians that aren’t empty-vessels led by think-tanks.

    Yes we need more defense spending less for education, social and health. Russia just lost more or less a million men and all its armor and ammunition, its ability to wage effective war in Ukraine its economy in shambles, but they still have the potential to invade NATO countries if they scrape the bottom of the barrel, its not fear mongering. Let us then cut the rest and spend it all in the military that’s a good way to prioritize things. How many times has this been said, government spending is the catalyst for the economy. If you dont spend then its a catch 22.🫡🤦‍♂️
