Graffiti on the banner also included the phrase “Leftist Massacre,” believed to reference the Hamas-led October 7 attack, as well as symbols associated with the Ku Klux Klan.

A banner in Tel Aviv calling for the release of Israeli hostages held in Gaza was defaced with graffiti on Tuesday night.

The banner, which hangs on a bridge over the Yarkon River, features the slogan “until the last hostage is freed.” It was spray-painted with anti-leftist messages, including “leftist murderers of Jews” and “leftist apostates.”

Graffiti on the banner also included the phrase “Leftist Massacre,” believed to reference the Hamas-led October 7 attack, as well as symbols associated with the Ku Klux Klan.

The Hostages and Missing Families Forum responded to the pictures posted on x/twitter, calling for the public to take action.

They called on the public to report any banners that are vandalized, removed, or damaged in order to preserve visibility for the ongoing hostage crisis.

The authorities have not yet issued an official response regarding the defacement.

Expanded ground operations in Gaza

This comes on the heels of the IDF announcing the expanded operation in Gaza. IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir said on Monday, “We are at the start of a new stage in the fighting in Gaza. We will do everything to protect the hostages and bring them home.”

The comments were made at a widespread situational assessment at the General Staff Headquarters in Tel Aviv. The announcement of the expansion of the operations in Gaza left much of the public and, most importantly, the hostage families, desperate to make sure that their loved ones wouldn’t be harmed. Hamas is still holding 50 hostages, and videos were publicized last week showing Evyatar David and Rom Braslavski shaken and starving.
