Men’s mental health, depression etc, it’s rife and a big killer. I doubt anyone else would oppose this idea too. Would be ideal to have for Labour as well, both a shadow men’s minister and an actual cabinet one if they get into power.
*He claimed the lack of male role models – citing actresses taking the lead in Doctor Who and the all-female Ghostbusters reboot – had left young men idolising violent anti-heroes*
Is this idiot for real or just inbred?
Is this the same guy who said Doctor Who and Star Wars having female leads was causing men to commit crime?
Not that I disagree with having a minister for men, just that this will continue to be ignored as long as it’s just this sexist clown pushing for it
Any male who would commit crimes because of the New Dr Who is definitely mentally ill and needs helps
Not a bad idea, if the position focuses on the right things. Which evidently aren’t female lead roles in TV and movies.
Imagine if, like, the leader of the country could be a positive male role model…
What a fucking cunt. “Young men get into crime because of feeemaaaaaalleeeeesss in shoooowwwwsss.” Fuck off. There are many reasons why folks get into crime but doing it because the current Doctor on Doctor Who is a woman? That isn’t one of them. How about this instead, YOU DO YOUR FUCKING JOB AND FOCUS ON THE ISSUES AFFECTING DONCASTER INSTEAD OF TRYING TO CREATE A TITLE FOR YOURSELF!
Just saying, if you’re the MP for Doncaster, you’re probably not the brightest bulb. This man is so dim that he’s actually making me feel dumb just typing this
That would be fair.
Of course, it would have to be someone who is a valid role model, which rules out all the tory MPs at least.
66% of MPs are male, how bout they act like good role models? Maybe even start with boris either fixing his shit or getting turfed out like he should be by the rest of those good male role models?
The suicide rate for men is far higher than it is for women. Boys are significantly underperforming girls in every level of education. Men suffering domestic abuse and violence have absolutely no recourse. These problems are real, and they need to be looked at. It’s quite sickening that so many of you are prepared to dismiss all of that just to score internet points making fun of some bizarre comments the guy made.
Right out of the Hitler playbook… masculine, manly, man, balls, dick, powerful and did I say manly? There’s a lot of that male insecurity going around again … happens every 30-50 years and the next thing you know it’s balls to the wall for everyone under the manly male thumbs.
Men do need stronger role models. We’ve spent years having masculinity demonised and criticised, when we should be encouraging positive strength of body, character and moral compass.
Most media men who don’t buy into progressive neoliberalism relate to is shit like Joker and Fight Club, which idolises raw masculine power through antiheroes. You can either accept that a good portion of strong men will be influenced by that worldview of dissatisfaction and reclaiming strength, or create a viable alternative through creating more positive and strong male role models who don’t attempt to just inject progressive feminism into young men who clearly aren’t interested.
Having said all of that, the only Tories I’d come even close to considering role models are Mercer, Wallace, Tughendat and Ellwood because they at least walked the walk before they talked the talk.
There definitely needs to be a focus on mental health and male suicide rates, would be better though to do some research into why that’s happening rather than just assume.
It’s hard to understand what he means by male role models, if he’s just talking about in the media then he is patently wrong.
Isn’t it about time somebody took this guy aside and had a little chat with him. He has obviously lost the plot. Likely he is projecting.
I feel this article is aimed to provoke outrage, I was watching parliament today and I got the impression he asked for a minister for men to target the rise of male suicide and not on some anti woman crusade ( I don’t think he even mentioned women )
Not saying he hasn’t said bad things in the past ( I have no idea on his past actions ) but any article so blatantly misleading with an axe to grind just turns me off what ever media outlet produces it.
I’d like to ask Boris Johnson to create a vacancy in the position of PM.
It’s not a bad idea but the guy is a moron due to his ‘anti woke’ comments

This actually isn’t a bad idea.
