He’s just making enemies now, and attacking the character of anyone who challenges Government policy or actions.
I think we’ve probably just about hit the floor for the ~~brexit~~ Tory party now. They’re polling has them down to their core base and I don’t think attacking the church of England is going to further endear him to elderly conservatives but then I think Boris is in pure reactionary / survival mode and there is little thought going into any of this.
Pathetic spectacle of a Government, has done lasting damage to political and constitutional norms and when either Tory backbenchers do the right thing (which the table slapping at the 1922 committee suggests is beyond them) or the electorate get a chance to remove him – the next government is going to have to formally codify standards after this shambles.

They’re attacking Britain’s participation in the International community.
They’re attacking the idea that Britain is One Nation.

And now they’re attacking the Church of England.
Surely it must be dawning on some people that the Tories now believe in something completely different to what they did even 10 years ago.

Oh, he’s milking the situation in Ukraine for all he can, pathetic little inadequate that he is. For two reasons: first, it diverts attention from him being a disgustingly corrupt sleazebag and he gets what he thinks is his very own little Churchill moment. Only slight problem with that is that I think by this point even Churchill would be standing in the very long queue of people who would dearly love to throat-punch him.
Boris has gone into “denial mode” about this and the BBC criticism.
Tune in on Friday for the “sincere apology, but” mode.
No disrespect intended to anyone religious. But this might be one of the first times I’ve found myself cheering on the religious figure to come out on top in a political spat.

After reading some of the other articles linked below to get around the paywall (thank you OP), it seems that “slur” in this case is more of the archaic, legal definition of “an insulting statement” and not the modern one of “a pejorative word” as it would seem at first glance.

Learnt a life lesson, if your gonna be prejudist/racist make sure you have a diverse cabinet.
The English language invented the word buffoon just for him.
Saw a description somewhere that Johnson is just like trump, he is allowing policy to be led by the media.
So now his backbenchers know to get their pet project going they just need to slip it to a journalist, they run it and Johnson leaps on it like an excited puppy.
So there’s no consistency, no grand plan, just lurching from media headline to talking point. The newest scandal is fine because it means you’ve moved on from the last one.
Meanwhile his mates are rifling through the treasury and starting the scramble for Britain to sell off as much as possible and carve out their own private empire on the bones of the UK state.
