I dont understand. People took some to live with them. Then returned them like toys. What are you people doing?? Think before you act.
And yet education isn’t free for Irish emigrants …
Honestly, I think most people just saw people fleeing a war and they jumped in without thinking about the costs, and figured it would only be a short term stay while the government got official accommodation for refugees up and running.
Turns out the government has no fucking plan (shocker), so those who did accept refugees are now burdened with refugees for the foreseeable future (unless they kick them out).
Others are seeing that the government has no plan, and are now realising that they simply can’t afford to take in entire families long term(400 quid isn’t a lot for a family of 4 for a month), or maybe they just don’t want to live with a family of strangers for months/years, which is fair enough.
This also further highlights how laughable the government’s plan to take up to 200,000 refugees is.
Seems like a bad idea, to me. Open for abuse
Loud and clear: government thinks 400 a month will house multiple people, yet you can barely find a decent double sized room for less than 500 (and if you do a hundred people have applied for it).
I feel really bad for the Ukrainians. But this government has its head so far up it’s own ass on the accommodation front, regardless of whether someone is a refugee, or just a regular renter.
The government are paying thousands a month per hotel room, why is a room in a family home worth only 400 in their eyes?
Just goes to show how detached from reality this band of monstrous ignoramus are , no thoughts or insights into how this could possibly be carried out with the lack of livable or affordable accommodation. Hit and hope that the generosity of some Irish will tide them over and Plaster over the cracks of this country’s absolute housing disaster. How many ministers or government civil servants are offering up rooms ?? Offering €400 is stupid, unrealistic and cheap, cutting the tax on the fair deal is shortsighted and is not a real incentive. God help us will we ever learn to stop voting in people with no other interest than getting their snouts into the trough.
€400 isn’t near enough to pay for the use of a house per month. Government need to wake up.
shithole of a country
Lead by example, all government ministers and senior civil servants should contribute /share some living space to refugees. Have no restrictions on making vacant homes tied up in fair deal available. Flat fee of €1000 to every livable 3/4 bed family holiday home . Utilise holiday caravan parks . Tax credit for accommodating/employees refugees. Have everyone on unemployment benefit trained in how to retrofit homes for energy conservation.
Friend of a friend took in a family and they ran up €500 bill between electricity and heating in the first week.
