A lightsaber fight between a wizard and the devil in a Hollywood blockbuster shown at full speed would really be unbelievable, I agree.
Another thing to keep in mind is that most films, especially of that time, were shot at 24fps, so certain actions might look goofy even if being performed in real-time by real people.
I think it was more because it could’ve been harder to follow if they sped up. Lights flickering everywhere and all.
Zack Snyder lightsaber fight without Disney oversight could be amazing
Why is this framed like it’s a new revelation? I’m pretty sure someone (if not McGregor himself) says so in either the DVD commentary or an interview shortly after the Phantom Menace premiered.
A quick google returned this [comparison video](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/ut1V8YPXXt4).
I’m just throwing it out there, Ewan spoke about this on an IGN video way back in 2019, in the run up to The Rise of Skywalker – in fact I’m pretty sure that’s the first time the story was shared, not quite sure where the ‘Urban Legend’ aspect of the story comes from.
Fucking Lucas! I never thought the Maul fight could get any better. But here it is… better.
OH ffs they should have kept it in
