Sweden’s most stressful and disappointing tourist attractions

The online language tutoring agency, Preply, trawled two of the world’s biggest travel review websites and counted all the reviews mentioning ‘tourist trap’, ‘underwhelming’, ‘overrated’, and ‘a disappointment’, using them to create a global ranking. 

None of Sweden’s sites made the global list, although the Little Mermaid in neighbouring Denmark made third place, coming after the Guinness Storehouse in Ireland (1st) and the Eiffel Tower in France, (2nd). 

Some Swedish attractions nonetheless did manage to garner a fair few negative reviews, with the Skansen open air museum in Stockholm coming top with 180 reviews using one of the four negative words.

What did the negative reviews say? 

The most common complaint about the (we think excellent) Skansen open air museum was the high price of tickets and the disappointing number of animals in the zoo.

ABBA The Museum was criticised for the long queues, overcrowded exhibits and high ticket prices. 

The (we think fabulous) Vasa Museum, where the incredibly well-preserved Vasa warship, which sank on its maiden voyage in 1628, was written off as “not worth the visit”.
