As neighbors fled the fire, he entered the equestrian center to try to rescue the 22 trapped horses. He did it without thinking twice. “He called me and told me there was a fire on the farm. He said, ‘I'm going there, everything's burning,’” recalls his wife, Elena, who claims that Mircea didn't work there and had no employment relationship with the farm. He simply saw the flames and decided to help.

“Once inside, he called me again. I could hear people shouting in the background to let the horses out,” Elena recounts. Then the call was cut off. Two family friends went out to search for him. They found him still alive. He was rescued by helicopter by the Civil Guard with burns over 98% of his body. He managed to say his last words over the phone: “Elena, I love you so much, but I don't know if I'll be able to hold back,” she recalls, trying to hold back her tears.

Mircea has become the first man to die in this wave of fires that is ravaging Spain.

A fundraiser has been organized but I cannot put the link in the post, I have linked to the news at “el país” where you can find more information. If you can, please contribute to help this family. Every little bit counts. Thank you so much
